Ahmadinejad is 'a bit wacky'? He's actually a holocaust denier who's called for Israel to be wiped off the map

If this is the Iran appreciation thread I'm in!
I've never even been but there are so many things I love about this culture: the music, food, poetry, films, Hossein from the Persian Mini Market around the corner, his cake selection!
I just read a book called We Are Iran, made up of people's internet blogs. Highly recommend it. Apparently Farsi is the second biggest language for blogging after English! Amazing for such a small populace.
Thanks for the pictures Hera. People need to see more of this...

Lame.Even Bedouin have settled closer to the villages and cities in modern times.I hope these classmates aren't anthropology majors!hera wrote:
Its really quite a shame that people in my university classes still thought Iran consisted of deserts, tents and camels. for example: "so like, you guys have cars?"
It's very sad,but that's pretty common in a lot of Western thought though. As if Japan,North America, and Europe are the only technological powers. The Middle East,China,Mexico,North Korea,Cuba,Russia,etc...people see it,but refuse to believe for fear that those countries may empower themselves(for the better) through technology. That they are beneath us and haven't moved beyond australopithecus man and only use it for harm. It's ignorant and just plain selfish,in my opinion. It's in the same way that minorities are still looked down upon by many people in this country(especially in our government) who are scared that education will make minorities stronger,so urban school districts recieve less spending budgets for education.Keep them dumb so they are easier to keep under control.[Ironically, most of said ignoramuses live in remote parts of the Mid-West and the South where there is limited access to some technology.]
It's the same fear, but on a global scale.I'm not down with all technological advancement, say like weapons and such. And I am not exactly thrilled with the fact that this country prides itself more on its armaments than on its constituents. However, through this same shared technology,we have opened up channels for community beyond local means, promote cultural diversity, make new friends, and spark desires to see new places,so it can't possibly be bad to just accept that it indeed does exist everywhere.I think it's time that Western thought caught up with the modern technology.
Oh...and I second this:

LMAO. Doubt he'd actually do anything to Israel. he doesnt need to. Iran has far more money than Israel in terms of raw materials and long termism.i-line wrote:Um, yeah. I'm not feelin him too much either.paolo wrote:Ahmadinejad is 'a bit wacky'? He's actually a holocaust denier who's called for Israel to be wiped off the map
Like i say he has to go..
The World is YOURZ
Was just thinking that lookin at the pictures. Do hope Bush doesn't kick off another war and fuck up another beautiful country. Anyone hear that Iraq used to have one of the highest rates of university graduates in the Middle East under Saddam.Spaceboy wrote:oh and for the fellas...
Iranians girls are HOT.
Was reading a piece in the Guardian about Iran a few years ago, and it was quite enlightening in terms of youth culture and lifestyle out there. Seems that the old fundamentalists are getting weak and dying off gradually, so there's hope that religious repression will gradually disappear as the old guard do.
Would be nice if western media could occassionally do service to the fact that middle eastern countries aren't just populated by people on camels moving skinny cattle around
Hmm....

looking nice Hera....
its a shame most of the people in the west (eur, aus & us) or so prejudice about, well actually everything that isn't western... i think the media is to blame, and the little egoistic life everybody is leading
seek for the nice thinks in cultures and nature, it will give positve energy. unfortunately media is only interested in negative shit happening all around the world (altough it's sometimes needed to cover)... don't let them fuck up your perception!!!!

Iran is an amazing place. went there for a couple of weeks a few years back. such a huge country and so diverse. the people are genuinely welcoming. my favourite place was Isfahan, where you can go and hear people performing tradition songs and reciting poetry beneath the Seyo Po bridge. I made some nice recordings - make interesting samples, maybe I'll post up some links.
