The bass on Elephant Dub on my press is pretty mindblowing. Weight beyond weight.
Re: Mark Pritchard release on Deep Medi
Heavy as stone is one of the most beautiful tracks i've heard in any music.

Hi,
My copy is quite quiet, I have to gain it up a bit. Are all the copies like that?
thanks

Re: Mark Pritchard release on Deep Medi
yeah i reckon they are all that way. volume is determined at the lacquer cutting stage so unlikely to be any level variables by the pressing stage?
guessing it may be to do with the lengths of the tunes (heavy as stone is pretty long) and the nature of the production
i'm willing to work around it tho as the music is so wonderful

Re: Mark Pritchard release on Deep Medi
Cheers for the comments.
We decided to cut it lower in level as when we hit the vinyl harder the track didn't roll the same way. A lot of dubstep has harder mid frequencies in the bass and snares ect, this one only worked if the bass was unruly. The bass level peaks at the same level as most 12"s but the drums are further back. I noticed it the first time i played the dub out, had to turn it up on the mixer, but when i did that it sounded mad in the club. We did try a version where the bass was pulled back, when i played it out it didn't sound like the same track, i thought it was just me losing my mind. I have to thank Danny breaks for noticing also when i played it to him at his place, he just said the bass needs to be stupid on this one.
I've been mastering at Loud mastering for years and i find that John at loud gets what i want out of my music. I like the mastering on the medi 12"s though, normally done at Transition. John also pointed out that it reminded him of cutting a lot of dub music in the 70s, massive bass levels in the sub frequency. They don't actually sound that loud in the mids which is where a lot of perceived level is.
Or this all could be just a excuse for a wack mix down hahaha as Mala's 12"s sound loud and his subs are killer always!
