Can one make a living from Dubstep ?
Certain DJs/producers will definitely be making a living from what they're doing, and so they should. Be a bit discouraging if you were at the top of your game and still had to work, especially what with all the exposure dubstep's been getting lately.... Think about it - the biggest artists can generally expect upwards of 300 for a gig, and as long as they're getting somewhere near a gig a week that's a wage. DJ-ing's definitely where the real money's at, as opposed to releasing tunes. Not that royalties aren't a total bonus, or that releases don't result in gigs.... But anyway, like people have said - it's all about the love etc. Still find it really encouraging that those at the forefront of the scene are in a position to write tunes full time.

U Could subside on the detritus off the floor at Plastic People for a few weeks I reckon, but I don't know if its a life time career option. U could also sling a hammock up behind the speaker on the right hand side if you needed shelter.

Well, its like Spaceboy said about how you spend your money.
And I was only talking about a very small number of people.....
At the end of the day making music isnt a Realistic way to earn
a living, but it is possible... Especially if some massive company
uses a few seconds from one of your tunes for an ad that runs
for years or something!! Fluking something corporate could set
you up for sure I reckon. It's a world of possibility & all that!

It happens - publishing companies throw money at that kinda thing (they'd throw it at dubstep if you blagged em, sorry I mean sold it to them with the right angles). And if it all goes up your nose, they'll throw some more at you. Everyone's a winner!Shonky wrote:
Luckily I make £6000 a week doing dodgy eurotrance knockoff's of 80's soft rock twattage so I can afford to lose money on dubstep.

well yea i think its def a bit hard at the moment since dubstep is still on the rise, but theres loads of people making a living off deebee i'm sure, and i think dubstep has a lot of potential to get way way way bigger and possibly be even bigger than dnb is someday... i mean we've even got dnb producers like tech itch and skynet making dubstep tunes... i could see it happening. maybe not someday soon but someday the best in the scene will be able to make a living off it, no doubt.
