Cool things to try with white noise fx?

Post by LordBid » Thu Apr 08, 2010 1:40 am

Anybody got any interesting finds, I for instance only just now realized how awesome flange can sound on a sweep, anybody got any good effects/modulation ideas for creating cool fx?

Background wind noise using a few filters.

A boring one but; snares n hihats.

Or wobble it n make brostep.

Ps maybe not the last one.

I like this thread it's an interesting thing to mess around with.

Hmm, with the first one you have to midi map the 2 octaves to play melodic white noise....wtf so no way to save as a patch or instrument then I have to delete/re-add the mapping everything I switch instruments. Fuck that.

Yeah it's great to add white noise over the top of a snare, or you can try layering it in with your bass. A good example of this is the anolag osc in albino, has like white, pink n brown noise i think off the top of my head. Another thing you could try is maybe automating some filtered white noise to use as a rise/sweep every 4/8 bars for example. I use it all the time, adds a bit of variety and allows your mix to flow well.

Try putting a gate on it, playing it at a high pitch and using it as an alt beep line.
