Big up the Barcelona pirates!! number one dubstep pushers in Spain without a shadow of a doubt!
Also big up GNZ and all the crew behind A Little Beat for spreading all kinds of underground dance music since day dot. And free, in your door. Can't wait to put my hands on this month's issue ¡Os merecéis todo el respeto posible!
I'll try and translate it, but don't expect much, my English is not very good either...

I'll try and translate it, but don't expect much, my English is not very good either...
Allright, here we go. As I said there'll probably be some mistakes as my English is not so accurate, feel free to correct me:
A Little Beat wrote:23Hz and Numaestro are two English producers settled down in Barcelona. Both have a large experience in music, since the beggining back in the 90’s, when they started making music separately.
23Hz was part of a project called Catfish, which back in 2000 released an amazing album called “Subspace Frequencies”, live drum’n’bass. A gemm. Shortly after he moved to Barcelona, where he kept making D&B, even getting reviewed by Knowledge magazine in 2005 as one of the best newcoming producers, including a tune on the free Cd of the magazine. Numaestro was born in London, but he is a dj in Barcelona since 1996, spreading the most bass-driven UK sounds, jungle, garage, breakbeat, and by means of his participation on Ravalbass sessions, introducing the crowd to dubstep, the new sound “made in UK”.
Both are responsibles of the Corsario Riddim show broadcasted on www.kremadelik.com (last Wednesday of every month at 22:00 GMT+1), where they spread the word of deep bass and atmospheric breakbeats, the new gospel of dubstep. You’ll be able to see them in Valencia, next March 16th at Le Club, but before they spread out their machines and vinyls to our ears, we wanted to know some more of them. Let me introduce 23Hz & Numaestro:
When and how did you know each other, and what pushed you to work together?
We met at a club where Numaestro was djing. We started chatting. 23Hz handed Numaestro some of their dnb productions, and he was impressed by them. Then Numaestro suggested making a joint project to explore the post-garage sound.
How’s dubstep been received in Barcelona?
Numaestro: Well, it’s difficult to play it here, it’s unknown and the people isn’t always open to such a new thing. Breakstep is easier because it’s someting more similar to dnb or other breakbeat genres. However I’ve been able to play dubstep records since 5 years ago, because I tried to introduce them the most accesible way possible. The biggest problem now is to find a club that fulfill the proper conditions, because dubstep is a kind of music where under-100Hz frequencies are very important.
23Hz: Yeah, it’s not only a matter of volume, it’s about having the power to represent bass sounds with maximum quality.
What did catch you of this new music? Do you think it could be exported like Drum’n’Bass or it’ll be something more difficult?
Numaestro: I love bass. I like a lot of kinds of music but this one is really fresh, even though it has elements of dub, techno, jungle and two-step and more. I think it’s really important to search for fresh things whenever they’re good.
23Hz: I’m also addicted to bass! It’s exciting because it’s something fresh that gives me the same feeling that when I was listening to jungle for the first time.
Numaestro: About exporting it... Well maybe we are importing it since we live in Barcelona. We export as we make it here and then people on the UK or EEUU or Europe play it on their dj-sets or radio shows. We are a bit of an odd case for that matter. I’m not an imperialist of culture. I respect Spanish culture a lot. I want to share this music with the people here.
23Hz: To be true I’m interested for the music I make to be heard everywhere.
Numaestro: It’s gonna be super-difficult. All due respect, the music (either techno, house or dnb) hardly arrives here as soon as it’s born. I wanna change that, but maybe this is just a dream. We need other people to get involved, so all our respect to you or Kremadelik.com and promoters like Skyfunk or Surco.
Tell us about the Corsario Riddim show... since when are you broadcasting it?
23Hz: We made Rascal Beatz with 213Radio from 2004 until the beggining of 2006. We’ve been 4 or 5 months on Kremadelik now with Corsario Riddim.
Our intentions:
1)Play our own productions
2)Represent the dubstep community and other cousins like grime or breakstep
3)Represent new artists that maybe haven’t released anything yet, to promote, spread and help good music to be heard
And what about your relantionship with Bristol based label, Inmerse records?
23Hz: Kidkut contacted us. People in Bristol have received very well our sound. “Galleon Dub” was played on dubplate for some of the best dubstep djs globally.
How do you plan your performance? What will we see on your set in Valencia?
23Hz: We’ll play some of our prodcutions and a lot of tunes we like produced by other members of the dubstep community. We come with a laptop and a lot of vinyls.
And what about your projects for 2007?
Numaestro: Substratum EP (Inmerse 003) is out on February with “Galleon Dub”. “Nemesis” will be released on The Agriculture Records, included in a compilation called “Global Steps”. We’re thinking about a label and a night here in Barcelona. I’m planning to perform in Poland, Lisboa and Barcelona.
23Hz: We’ll keep with the Corsario Riddim show on Kremadelik and we’re making a lot of new tunes.
