I hate to contribute to this thread because of the manner in which it's presented...........BUT.....
I think that the hype style has it's place. My beef, however, is that I CANNOT listen to it for extended amounts of time. I like hear a lot of more laid back vibes and while there aren't people jumping around waving glowsticks, people stay longer, drink more alcohol, and the vibe is generally much more friendly and loving. But, hey...some people like jumping around waving glowsticks so they have to be accommodated by someone.
I do not want the genre to be pigeonholed. I was drawn to dubstep because there was this moody, bassy vibe that I found really interesting and enjoyable...Artists were experimental and there was a lot of variety within the genre. Personally, I think there is more longevity in a wider range of sounds. I think dubstep has incredible potential in that the only requirements for production include 1) 140bpm 2) subbass...this leaves so much room to really push the boundaries.
Biggups to EVERYONE making this music. TBH, I can only encourage people to be themselves and play what they feel. I may or may not come to your shows, but this is art and there's no use in laying down silly rules. I can only make observations and present my personal opinion...some will agree, others won't.
/shrug...

Re: What the fuk is going on with jumpup?
When I say don't educate the audience too much I don't mean not to play deep but be a bit sly in introducing it to a crowd who don't appreciate it in large doses, just by playing the same tunes in a different order you can get your message across without clearing dancefloors. Keymatching tunes of different styles and constantly switching them so that the melodies of the deeper tunes ride over the basslines of the heavier/tekkier stuff without letting the deep tunes ride on their own for too long for most of the mix works for me.Genevieve wrote:As for Robx Sparx, it's odd that you don't believe that the DJ should be educating too much. Instead of talking about the issue, calling out names, etc, in a thread, perhaps it is time to make yourself the educator and only do the deep stuff you enjoy to actually make a difference in the scene instead of sitting back and telling the rest of the dubstep community how what they're doing is wrong?
I don't think what was dominating the charts at the beginning of last week when I made this post (and for the week or so b4) was exactly representative of the dubstep community just a minority milking a certain sound which happens to be flavour of the month thats all. I prefer playing longer more experimental sets with less pressure to keep the audiences attention but I don't want to stop writing/playing any style, I'm just not feeling certain producers cheesy generic take on jumpup but if you thought I really only wanted to write deep you obviously haven't seen what I've said about generic deep music on other threads have you?
Anyway Funtcase has accepted my invitation of a battle! I'll post details when we've sorted out a date...

We don't really call ourselves that either. Just to add my contribution to this enthralling, everlasting thread: I like some stuff and don't like other types of stuff. 3.2.1...DEBATE!501dubz wrote:oh you britons.Gazlew wrote:as opposed to where?
... from where I stand UK is a part of Europe + I always thought that Rob Sparx, the man the myth the brand is born and bred in the UK.
Does anyone refer to the UK as Europe though? No. Quite clear to see he's talking about France, Belgium and Germany etc.
All done.

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

What's the forfeit for the loser?
I think it should be that they have their iPod or CD case re-worked by the winner...
