where to go from here?
where to go from here?
i was curious if anyone has advice for me. Im in the market for a new mixer and set up. Right now I've been running virtual DJ software with a hercules rmx mixer, a macbook pro and a single stanton turntable. After reading this you can probably tell im desperate for an upgrade. From everyone's experience with the different hardware(Rane vs Allen & Heath vs. Pioneer, etc) and software(Serato vs. Traktor vs. Virtual DJ, etc) whats worth investing in? I've been saving up some coin so it isn't as much an issue of cost as it is the longevity and versatility. From my research thus far I haven't been able to make any strong decisions. I would really appreciate any opinions, im not having any luck

Are you wanting to say software based with a controller or you looking to go to hardware?
Pioneer mixers are good quality and can take a lot of abuse, making them the industry standard for your average club or rave, however they're not the end all be all mixer. Some hate on them (likely beause they are popular and douchebags hate anything popular). They're good mixers and reasonably priced.
Allen and Heath are very very high quality mixers. Their components are very high quality. In my experience they don't take as much abuse but if you're just using it to mix they are about as good as it gets. I'd recommend a Xone series Allen and Heath to just about anyone.
If you're wanting to stay with software and simply need a good controller with a built in mixer, I'd recommend a Kontrol KDJ-500 http://kontrolprodj.com/
I use this with traktor at home and with my laptop. One of the better purchases I've made in the past 5 years.

Re: where to go from here?
Before you take my opinion into account, i really am no expert on mixing 2bh as it's just something i started to mess around with last summer as a break from production but for software i started out for a small while on Virtual DJ too before getting dissatisfied with it quickly so i got Traktor and i really have enjoyed using it, i'd definitely recommend it to someone else. I've heard nothing but great things about the Numark NS7FX but beyond that what i'd definitely reccomend doing is dropping by the production forum, type in a price range and get some advice from people more experienced and knowledgeable on the subject than i am.

Re: where to go from here?
i put up a post in the production forum without a single reply.
I guess I have a lot more research to do, but thanks for helping me get pointed in the right direction.
I'd like to have a top quality mixer as an anchor and then build whatever else i need really around it. Im gonna keep my macbook pro laptop and get another stanton, but im wondering which mixer would be best for me into the future. Im hoping that I can get the best of both worlds by being able to play vinyl and digital tunes.
Personally, I prefer the sound of vinyl. We can argue about that till the whiskey's gone and the fires out. But having both would give me some versatility as Im gonna be on the road with it for the summer and I can't bring too much gear, but as always, the special plates are necessary on lay away for those murky late nights.
Like I said before $$$ isnt as much an issue, I'll pay more for quality and longevity. I've been messing around with friends equipment since 2003 and seen a lot of different gear and its made me indecisive. I know that I really want a set up that I can play with at home, small venues and music festivals (got a real nice pair of JBLs and a sub on the way) and will last me for the long run

First post lol
If money isnt an issue i would recomend a pair of technics 1210's, a pioneer mixer and serato or similar. Ive used the cheaper 'INTIMIDATION TOUCH V2'
and its great.

No problem man, sorry i couldn't be of any more help. I'm just suprised you didn't get a reply in the production forum, people are usually quite helpful in there....Unless you ask about making wobbles that is lol.grubstep wrote:i put up a post in the production forum without a single reply.

i think one of my favorite threads(and probably has been a repeat for several bastards on this forum) was this dude saying "Hey listen to this most whomptastic wobble gobble blah blah blah ever, i produced it myself and its so hard, i dare you to try and match my hard beats!"
then somebody posted Mala- Alicia (a personal favorite of mine) and said " this is the most whomptastic wobble that will make you cream your pants, shit on your grandmothers chest and smoke crack with your dad" or something to that effect. LOL
It's amazing to me how in the states most of these people started listening to Dubstep 6 months ago, and they have this image of what they think it is because of shitty US DJs and producers out here who blow their wad the whole time throughout the set without any structure or build up. And because the audience are all way too f*cking high, they dont realize that they are all listening to is complete shit, that they are completley smoked and that these djs and producers are just biting other peoples shit (to the extreme). thats a run on sentence for ya but i think you get the point. Give it up to your roots! This shit was born in the Uk, blossomed in Europe, and then people in the US caught wind and made a stinky fart of it. There is more to Dubstep then Bassnectar you fucking tools. its the same time of people who listen to a house track and say " dubstep is so sick! I love this shit!" f*ck that.
