Joe Nice Big Up Interview
Joe Nice Big Up Interview
I assume most everybody has read the Big Up Magazine interview with Joe Nice, exactly what I would hope for and expect in an interview from him, the man gives his opinion straight without beating around the bush. What did everybody think? Say what you will about his opinions on music, you can't help but respect somebody dishing out mantras like "I’m a firm believer that there is no finish line. No matter how far you’ve gone, you can always go farther, you can always do more and be more," especially when you know he lives it.

Re: Joe Nice Big Up Interview
I had the pleasure of getting this interview straight from Joe back in Feb I believe. The man hit the nail on the head in so many different ways. Especially for me. I run a station that caters to all types of the sound, so I sometimes find myself standing in the chainsaw and power drill isle at Home Depot. Here in Dallas, its really bad. Tons of DNB refugees looking for a new home and think Dubstep is just some new style of DNB @140 bpm.
I have had a well known "dubstep dj" tell me "I really dont like the dubby stuff.. Mala, Digital Mystikz, etc". I threw up in my mouth a little. I have come across quite a few producers who totally have no idea what "sub" really is. Yet they claim the music they write is dubstep. This is where I would normally put my foot down, but Joe saw the imminent divide, and drew a line in the sand for us!
I was elated when I read the article. Its about time someone of Joes magnitude stepped up and spoke the truth.
P.S. With regards to dubstep, please allow the following to rest in peace:
- The amen break (RIP)
- Vocoders (RIP)
- Vox samples from the movie SAW (RIP)
- Vox samples from anything with Jason Statham (RIP)
- Vox samples from anything with Bricktop (RIP)
Feel free to chime in here

Not to drill this into the ground and make it a "fuck brostep" thread, but I think there is a growing distinction between dubstep and brostep (or "good music" and "bad music"). I see it going in the direction of the distance between techno and happy hardcore, both parties will have their own music and own identity and the poor graphic design and over reliance on skull and blood imagery will differentiate what is worth listening to and what is garbage.

i've got local "dubstep" djs who dont even know who mala/coki/loefah are.
i know you've got to start somewhere, but these kids seem to just think it's one dimensional and dont even bother looking for anything outside their little bubbles.
