crackslingers post,
I'd like to add

Reso and Akira Kiteshi to the 'Jump Up' list
they have a wide range of what they're capable of as well.

Hmm such a long thread. I kinda agree with rob in a way. i like a lot of grimey dirty hard hittin dubstep but some of it takes it too far like excision. I dont like excision, maybe 1 or 2 songs of his i like. absolute randomness most of his songs are. Datsik i like though. i know theyve done a lot of work together but i think hes better on his own.

I wasn't having a pop at Excision and Datsik, their music often isn't really what im into but it doesn't make me cringe and their production is normally pretty tight as opposed to rinseouts. I don't think the problem is taking grimey filth too far just overusing the same stupid slidy/bitcrushed bass sounds and cartoon vocal "kick drop" FX which ends up sounding chavtastic and silly. Its all too fucking jolly and foolish sounding, I mean Numbernin6 can do some pretty filthy tunes but without the clown factor, why does a lot of the nu-skool stuff have to sound so silly without actually being funny? If the tunes had some jokes samples in there done well then I could appreciate them for being comedy rinseouts, hardly timeless material but good for a laugh and certainly not worth complaining about - thats what im trying to do with the pisstake tunes anyway but ill understand if ppl don't even notice their existence if they don't get posted on a popular utube channel or released on a big label.

Fairplay to Funtcase/Doctor P/Barenoize etc for doing their thing and being so popular anyway, whole thing just reminds me of clownstep all over again though and boredom with the eventual extreeme spazzy form of that sound that became the staus quo of jumpup DNB plus what it did to the DNB scene in general is what drove me to dubstep in the first place.

Joe Muggs is right though theres been enough whinging about this already, I'm not going to make any more threads like this one but im glad some ppl found it funny and didn't get their panties in a twist!

As of 2008 the US simply hadn't broken big with dubstep... When the 'tearout' sound started gaining popularity stateside, the people started getting into it and only then did large promoters start opening the door for a lot of the big traditional dubstep sounding UK artists. Whether you dig the sounds or not, it's helped expose a lot of people to 'good dubstep' in general that simply weren't getting exposed to it otherwise.

Clownstep got out of hand when Fresh, Dillinja, Twisted, and a bunch of other established heavy hitters with the help of Grooverider and Hype pushed a certain sound and caused a follow the leader type situation. It'd be like Skream and Benga all the sudden doing 'tearout' .... whether it was good or not a lot of sheep would follow regardless.

I dont think these are two similar of situations. The 'tearout' sound is a rather large departure from traditional dubstep by relatively unknown artists who made a name for themselves off of doing their own thing.. I think it's safe to say that in the long term any artist not worth their weight will fade away fairly quickly, while the cream will rise to the top and remain for the long haul.

That said 2008-2010 saw a rather large second push for dubstep worldwide. If WMC and SxSw are any measuring stick for how relevant genres are in the EDM scene in general, this year saw Dubstep as a whole leaps and bounds above any other state its been at in the past.
