Release the groove is near rainforest cafe, I'd never sold anything in there and managed to get them to take 20 off of me...
We sold about 400 in the uk this was about 2007 I think, it got in the one extra top ten and got played on kiss and radio so it was quite a bug record at the time. It wasn't dubstep btw.

Either wa,y Ir efuse to think that selling purely in face to face local shops is going to make you ANY money at all. Haha, Ive been in my fair share of punk bands, and around here that shits alot bigger then anything electronic... Ill tell you what, we did put our shit in the local shops, and, hahaha, now that I think about it, I spent more in gas driving to shops then I ever made with the bands...

Im seeing a pretty ideal strategy to build up your local base, because we did get some bookings and shout outs from other bands on stage n shit out of selling with locals, but thats all. It was never for the money but for local promo n cred.

Then again that PA Punk so you guys could be ALL KINDSA DIFFERENT, haha...

Getting your record out there wont get you any money. What you do for yourself once your record is out there tho is up to you!
Ie, mechanizing, getting your track played on big radio stations or played by big artists and then gigging!

It is hard work tho and you need to put money into it, ie, petrol, phone calls etc

if the record is good enough you can. If you walk into the store with the records in your hand offering a sale or return deal they would be mad to say no, they would stand to lose nothing.

Yeh true. There are not many shops around tho anymore:( I think I would be better off working thru the distribution guys but then they take a share:/

Maybe use disrobutors for a few records, if they sell well the shops will recognize that and you could probably do it yourself after that.

Man I miss going to shops and digging thru the crates. I use to love second hand shops and would spend all day in there with a beer and a box of cigarettes. The enjoyment you would get when you found something rare was amazing.

bloke for the last copy of scrappy by wookie in blackmarket, I lost but went in uptown and they had about 10 left

Was all about the second stuff in the exchanges;) I still have quite a few gems I got in there for 50p that are on sale for £30+ now days.

Wax does rule but I'm just starting to go digital, mainly due to the cost of records an the fact I've got no space for my decks and records. Although if I really really like a tune I tend to buy the vinyl aswell even though I end up never playing them.

true in most cases but really depends. If you produce and distribute the tune yourself you can do alright. If you sell 500 for £7 and split 50/50 with the shops and don't have any overheads such as producer/distribution fees you will do ok out of it. Enough for your next release and a few beers.
