The course is taught by Jonny Miller, acclaimed producer, DJ and label manager who has racked up releases on a range of labels including Aquatic Lab, Sidestepper Recordings, K7 and Twisted Funk. Jonny will examine a broad range of production techniques from bass heavy dubs through to more techno influenced flavours.

You will also recieve one-to-one personal feedback from your pro producer tutor who will give you technical and creative advice on the areas of your tracks which may need some improvement. This feedback is totally unique to our courses!

i saw some videos on youtube and think your course is really helpfull
but i saw 2day the video of the dubstep course and to be honest it didnt get me excited
mayb a nice video for a beginner but i think alot people are way behind that point

Looks like an interesting course, but it really seems to be focused on folks who are just getting into things on the whole. I'd love to see some more advanced stuff on there, or at least a peak at it, because right now I'm interested, but I don't want to shell out $$ for stuff I already know.

Seriously..... it looks like a good course for people just starting but most people who are on here are past the point of being able to take anything useful from it.

Also most beginners are younger people so they may not have the ££ available to splash out on it.

We want to get as much feedback as possible, it's always good to get lots of opinion on what we do so that we can make sure we continue to deliver to a high standard.

I do understand the points about the video for the Dubstep Course, it is taken from a very early section of the course so i'm going to chat to Jonny Miller (the course developer) and try to edit together a video from later on in the course with some more advanced lessons.

As for the spam accounts, those two posts from 'Ryalt' and 'Bionic_eye' are definitely not part of Point Blank, we are all into making music here and I personally am an active forum user (outside of work too), so we do not want to be a company that merely spams these forums because we all know how frustrating that can be. I want to be able to actively participate in the DSF as Point Blank, it is true that I will talk about the courses we offer but I really don't want to be doing so in a way that comes accross as merely spamming and not fully participating in discussion etc.

And if it is the case that the majority of the users on the DSF are at an advanced level to the point that the Dubstep course is not suitable then you might want to check out the courses we offer in areas such as Sound Design or Mixing and Mastering etc.

Big ups man, I like what you're doing - giving people who wanna be creative and don't know how, a option to learn by professionals!

I just plead that you cater all aspects of dubstep and don't get another 1000 filth producers floating around using massive and vengeance sound packs! I can see the potential in the course and I also agree with you that if people are to advanced for this course then they already know how to write dubstep so should look at other things like sound designer and mixing/mastering.

We have honestly developed the Dubstep Course to ensure that students are exposed to the full spectrum of the genre and not merely focused on the dreaded 'wobble'! The course starts on 3rd May, so when it's finished in June and we have the first batch of student Dubstep tunes I'll make sure I post a link and all the DSF crew can have a listen.

Again on those "I think it's a great idea" comments which seem like spam, I can 100% guarantee that they are not posts from Point Blank staff or have anything to do with us, I'm pretty sure they are independent and probably genuine. I wouldn't be posting with a Point Blank account if i was also using fake ones, it makes us look bad to do that anyway.

I think it's a pretty good idea to be honest, but also a lot of the dubstep specific production elements, aren't actually dubstep specific, they would surely be used widely throughout general music production?

Would be cool to see what comes of the course and what the students come out with, keep us updated

Yeah that's exactly true! All of the techniques and skills taught on the genre specific courses are totally transferable accross all sorts of styles of music, we often have students taking more than one genre specific course so they can apply techniques which are perhaps more used elsewhere to their prefered genre, and so create a more unique and personal sound. Taking on as much learning as possible is inevitably going to result in better production, so the elements we teach can be seen in other styles of music but are probably most commonly seen in Dubstep. There is a section of the course which will focus on the the techno/house influenced dubstep sound, so here you will definitely be learning how other genre techniques can be effectively used to create the sound you're looking for.

Just for a bit of an update:

I had a talk with the Dubstep Course developer in relation to some of the discussion on this and other forums about the course, and in light of some of the comments on the video which is featured on the course page we've put together another video taster of the course which we feel may provide slightly more insight into the course and drum up a little more excitement about what to expect.

<< Not a spam account, just new to the forums because I honestly just found out about them recently.

Been getting into production lately (just picked up Ableton Live) and have been looking at tutorials and such to help teach myself the software. Everyone has to start somewhere. And that's one of the reasons why I felt like commenting on this because it is a decent idea for those of us getting into it.

Don't really care for being called SPAM just because I only have a couple posts. Sometimes reading is more effective than putting my thoughts on every little thing out there at this point.

And I still think this is a decent idea for people interested and not well versed in using DAW's, who have the $$ to spare.

this looks like an awesome online school. i would probably take one of the sound design or mastering classes if i had money. for the dubstep class, $520 for 4 weeks? i need a job haha. 4 weeks seems like a very short time period for a class

One of my mates is doing a Logic House course of some sort with these guys and is rating it. Heard a couple things he's started on and sounding pretty sick considering he only bought Logic 2 months ago and have never produced before.
Not so sure about a Dubstep one though, everything I've seen to do with Dubstep tutorials have all sounded the same. At least theres sub bass mentioned in there though.

the classes that teach a single genre, are $520 for 4 weeks. and the "pro" classes that teach sound design or mastering or whatever are only about a hundred more than that, and they are 12 weeks! i would definently just take one of the pro classes. but then again im not a beginner soo....
