all over the place for me.

from the dnb/jungle scene (since day one) to new tearing breaks from the likes of DJ Rupture, Kid 606, etc. ragga sound of Soundmurderer to the sound of Luke Vibert and his many monikers - the Amen Andrews 5 ep set is off the hook, featuring the longest known recorded bit of timestretch 'All of you shall witness the day when Bablyon shall faaaaaalllllllll !' - amazing track. Definitely always feelin Muziq, Aphex, Squarepusher, Orb, Orbital and the like.
Some hiphop, good shit tho, Wu, Dre, Roots Manuva, Gangstar etc. Some noise shit like Lightning Bolt, Athletic Automitron ... anything on Load Records (based where I live, gettin big) ... the list goes on and on and on.

But Dubstep, that shit has me by the balls at the moment
:P
next up: Nothing in Providence RI - that's for sure ! fukkas !

Nice thread topic.

:)

Yeah, vintage DnB - obviously Metalheadz, Prototype, Cert. 18, Metro, Virus, No U Turn, some old Full Cycle (when they released quality ;). Alot of stuff released between 94 and 98-99. Old Photek, Source Direct, Hidden Agenda.

Truly inventive DnB (in short supply!). Contemporary DnB that retains the breakbeat as a featured element. Sadly, as DnB has progressed the importance of the breakbeat has been diminished. I guess this is a big part of the reason I'm drawn to the sound of dubstep - the producers seem much more focussed on experimenting with beat structures.

Classic hip hop, and some new stuff, too. Instrumentals with depth and emotion, Ninja, Mo Wax, tru thoughts...amongst many others. Prefuse 73 is an incredibly talented producer - although I don't always feel his stuff, he's always experimenting and not afriad to fly in the face of the conservatism that is so prevalant in hip hop these days.

Amon Tobin. Krush. Shadow. Diplo. Blockhead. Peace Orchestra.

Bits of dub, dancehall and some jazz, too.

On occasion some glitchy IDMish stuff that still retains some semblance of groove. You know, not just a bunch of nerds making static with vintage theremins connected to calculators.

Look, I could go on for days.... you got me started man, sorry.

Miles Davis - from his more experimental periods, e.g. Bitches Brew, Panthalassa.

King Tubby - truly the king of dub, a pioneer.

Rhythm & Sound / Burial Mix - seminal timeless music.

Early Jungle/Hardcore/Drum n bass, from about 92 to 94, - 4 Hero, Ruffige Kru, Photek, Dillinja (esp Deadly Vinyl releases), early Roni Size, Foul Play, loads more I could mention ... then around 97-98 when the techy sounds came in with Jonny L, Ed Rush & Optical, Fierce, Dom & Roland etc.

Hip hop - Quasimoto and Roots Manuva

Also a bit of classic house once in a while, and I used to be a proper techno head, esp into the deeper detroit stuff.

Everything with a breakbeat interest me : big beat, funky breakz, plodstep, tech funk, bassline breaks, breakstep, 2 step, halfstep, dubstep,... Step step and step ;-)

But also hip hop from the seventies till the middle of the nineties

Some electro but mainly oldskool electro funk, Baile Funk, Booty

A bit of house music (chicago), deep house, electro house, techno (detroit)

Ambient, Trip Hop, a bit of electronica

Vintage funk

Disco

Dub, Reggae, Ragga, Ska

Sountracks, Jazz and Easy listening

Jungle, Drum and Bass, Drill and Bass

Glitch

Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Batukada

.......

There are good things in each genre, the question is about the selection !

My 2 cents

There's so much good music around. It's all about having good ideas and making interesting sounds. It can be anything from Swiss yodeling to Japanese noise as far as I'm concerned. But still, dubstep is on the top of my list right now.
