One of the synth sounds in Dark Knight's 'Dancing Crows' is exactly the same as the synth sound in Kromestar and Jay 5ive's Bass 96, not that I'm suggesting anything.

thinking wrote:loads of new bits coming from Dark Knight, but I wish he would just leave the tunes sometimes - they roll out just right and then in comes some new MIDI-brass lick or something which just over-eggs the pudding. Literally every tune I've heard has the same problem so far.

Other than that, there's some serious promise - the closest I've heard to a revival of the W London sound of broken a la Bugz.

this this this.

my main beef with the baiter side of funky is TOO MUCH MIDI HORNS.

i think they use midi horns to be controversial. reminds me a bit of some rza beat i heard when i was a young'n, pretty nice musically, but he used some bait casio presets for the drums. i think sometimes well known producers get a bit drunk on their own success and try some weird shit, just cos they can

midi horns are essential for a great funky tune.

Allow the real instruments pppff

i think synthetic sounds modelled on real instruments can be cool
in the right context they sound so brash it can give things a certain energy

i like the sound of midi stuff, except horns, but the horns in gold bricks really work well
