the thing that pisses me off is that half the tunes are just remixes of mainstream songs. it's like this is "dubstep for people who didn't know they liked dubstep"...

surprised to see this, but the tracklisting could have been a hell'a load worse.. so may help rather then hinder seeing as it has a bit of variation...

lol at how that video skips straight over brackles remix of crookers, the first good song on there.

though to be fair, this can only be a good thing, people will buy it seeing the tracks they think are "fucking dirt filth granny smashers", put it on, and after repeat listens will realise just how good all the other stuff is that isnt aggy electro-metal. this is how i discovered the deeper side, after listening to skreams essential mix and C&R fabriclive, i realised the most interesting songs were the deeper ones.

education for the masses innit, in a format they can take. the tracklist order is even constructed pretty well for breaking it to people. ministry are clever folks, you can tell they been in this for years.

Before I agreed to do the notes, I watched how the track licensing process went, and as I said, I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think they knew what they were doing.

To those concerned about ommissions, rest assured that they wanted a LOT of other names, including many of those mentioned in this thread, but licensing tracks especially from small labels is never easy - people don't respond in time, are on tour, can't find the masters, drive too hard a bargain, or just plain don't want to license their tracks. It was a real eye-opener seeing what a complex process it is, in fact!

i saw a poster for this in baker street station today.

really struck me then how far this scenes come. everyone involved from the producers through to the listeners and bloggers deserves a pat on the back for supporting and pushing it to this height. im not just talking about having a ministry compilation, im talking about the general status of the genre. you may question parts and styles of it, and it may not be such a close lit thing anymore, but at its core its still a thriving creative engine spreading good vibes between people.

nobody can predict the future and things may become better or they may become worse, but just take a step back and appreciate how far its come at this point in time. its truely admirable. must be amazing for the original heads to have helped fan a musical flame into such a big global fire.

the analogy that came to my mind was like how a parent would feel to see their child become a succesful adult of their own. it makes you feel proud.

I just find it funny that everyone who used to rinse me for listening to dubstep now "love" it. But I do agree, its a massive achievement to get it to where it is now. I dont think anyone could have predicted how big dubstep was going to be 4 or 5 years ago. Shame alot of the big tunes seem to have lost their connection to the original sounds of the music. Alot of people see dubstep as, and I quote "a way to make pop songs sound better" Thats a genuine quote

lol im not a great fan of the restricted image dubstep has been given to the mainstream or the styles that they have begun to filter and stereotype it for, but my opinions aside its a great achievement thats its gotten as far as it has.

i just thought id say this now while the majority of it and the underground is relatively healthy. its "grown up" now and become something of its own which the creators (like parents) will have limited control as to how it moves as a whole over time. music has a life of its own; i know im rinsing this analogy now but it fits proper well. just like the child who is now an adult can wander off into so many different paths of its own choice, so can music. we just gotta hope the path it chooses makes us proud (for a lack of more humble words).

how did you get involved in a job like that? I ask because it is something that I would have loved to do, and as one of millions who would love music to become a proffesional thing, was wandering how you went about getting into that situation?

that is what most people think of dubstep, however if they bought this compilation, the top 40 songs with filthy wobble would act as a doorway into the true side of dubstep, the mala and the shackleton and the artwork and all the other bits that make up the dubstep that most of us love.

lol most will skip those tracks tbh. what can you do ey, its just what the mainstream want. structured restricted music to suit the specific sound they wanna hear.

where as people who are into music more would be coming with an open ear looking for creativity.
