Re: brostep production massive.
Gotta say I agree...I don't have a problem with music for idiots, but the drums in the majority of brostep is the first thing that turns me off of it. Fix up, people! It's rare that I hear an obnoxious tune with good drums, so get on it!

Re: brostep production massive.
i really only like more groove based subby stuff tbh but i got no hate for brostep (is that people are officially calling it now?). different people have different tastes. for example my younger broski likes a bit of dubstep and all he listens to is that midrange wobble wobble random movie sample metal noise no funk kinda stuff. but he (and obviously many others) like it.
when i play him something with a bit of a beat like el-b or horsepower productions he ain't feeling it as much.

the only thing worse than bad drums on a beginner "brostep" tune is whiney psuedo-elitist forum posts... if you don't want to hear crappy drums, don't listen to them.

Ok maybe you ahve a point OP but I know for a fact ive heard plenty of "non-brostep" songs with kick on 1 snare on 3, frankly I find it to be more of an overall problem within the genre or maybe it isnt a problem at all? really I dont give a fuck and also

Ironic that when people talks about my tunes they go on to youtube, search for dayn and somehow find the oldest tunes ive done.abZ wrote:That isn't really a fair comparison. The best of one sound compared to the worst of another get me. I don't mean to hate on Dayn either but I absolutely cannot listen to that kids productions.tripwire22 wrote:
good drums
utter shit vibe

About the brostep drums, well yeh, its kinda lame, but it fits, would gladly step up my drum game myself and will try to do this. The perscussive bits in dubstep is something i really like and honestly missing in my productions. Still i dont see the point of all this brostep hate, lets just listen to the music and be glad. Or dont listen to the music lol
cheers

Re: brostep production massive.
I don't think it is the strict reserve of 'brostep' per se, I think there are just a lot of junk producers who can't be fucked with programming decent drums... I think brostep gets away with it more, because the drums in that sound are secondary to the bass craziness. It's not as it should be, dance music was built on drums and in my opinion it's the drums that provide the vibe, get the head nodding and the feet moving. They are the building blocks.
It's not all like that though. Producers like Reso have utterly sick drums but can still tear it up with sick bass too. That's hard work and talent, but the results speak for themselves.
Big up original OP, this is something I have been listening to a lot and noticing recently, and I know I for one will be spending more time on my programming as a result.
There is nothing 'psuedo-elitist' about that.

Just had to say, WTF. Who the hell wants to hear crappy drums? Imagine this... You make a tune, it has crap drums. You send it to a label, they say 'it's got crap drums', and stop listening to it. Congratulations! Your point is fail. Better drums make better tunes. Better tunes make a better scene. In either case, by spending time learning to program drums well, you become a more accomplished producer, which is all we want at the end of the day, isn't it?the only thing worse than bad drums on a beginner "brostep" tune is whiney psuedo-elitist forum posts... if you don't want to hear crappy drums, don't listen to them.

Re: brostep production massive.
Not really, we're not talking about level of production we're talking about drum patterns here. It's different if it SOUNDS shit, but a kick(1) snare(3) can be produced just as well as a more complex pattern so i fail to see your point.stereotactic wrote:Just had to say, WTF. And also, this happens in dubstep as a whole as someone else pointed out. But i guess all the elitists turn a blind eye to that!

In all honesty, there is a MUCH higher standard regarding drum patterns in house than there is in brostep...and if we're talking about swing, then you'll find it in house more than you will in brostep. I'm guessing a lot of the guys that make these really substandard drum patterns in brostep are the same ones that listen to a house track and only hear 4/4 kicks.
Re: brostep production massive.
because brostep drums can be simple, (brostep being bass led) I often find if I want it extreme both the drums and bass have got to be crazy, And thus I have invented 'metalstep'.. just like brostep but with deathmetal style double-basspedal-style on the kickdrums. it's still 140bpm. If anyone copies my sound I will be having words.
head of brostep defence
