Record Selection Software to rig up to CDJ's????

Post by SharkfordD » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:30 pm

Hi,

Yet again, not too sure where to post this so hopefully this is alright?

I was just wondering what pc software DJ's use to select tunes when rigged up to a CDJ? I've heard of something like Rekord Box? Is serato live any good for that kind of thing?

Sorry for the 'noob' behaviour!

Nice one guys,

Sharky x

I was aware you could use CDJs with such software?

I would assume some sort of control CDs similar to a timceoded vynal for Digital Vynal Setups?

Just like timecoded vinyl, there are timecoded CDs.

Nice one guys,

Just wondering though is there any kind of software available for cheap/free where I wouldn't need a interface/soundcard so I could just play songs straight from my laptop to my CDJ's? Just via a USB cable? I imagine there isn't?

Cheers,

I don't know if this answers your question but if you have CDJ 400s, or some Denon models you can hook them up to your computer and use them as a MIDI controller for a program called Mixxx, its basically a free open source version of virtual DJ or Serato, I *think* you can also map it to other DJ software. Also if you have an audio interface with multiple inputs or 2 sound cards Mixxx can decode Scratch Live timecode CDs so you can hook up each CDJ to an input on each soundcard and it will act the same as having a SL1 or similar. This is all from memory so don't go too hard on me if i got something wrong, I'll link to the wiki page of hardware control on mixxx.org so you can check stuff out for yourself. http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/vinyl_control :)
