I think to watermark your stuff is a little extream and paranoid, not to mention like spying on someone and showing how un trustworthy you are.
Allow it, ill admit i will download somthing if its there, i dont rip or share, but i will download it. Weather or not a buy it depends on funds, avaliability and if i actually like it.
Personally i dont think with singles it harms anyone, as hardly anyone buy them anyway.

I only got into dubstep from downloading it. believe me, if I had the funds i'd buy the lot. and I do buy as well (if it's good). all it means is that I have twice as much and a more refined taste. cant afford decks either so I have to make do with mp3s. not by choice, it's just fucking expensive.
would never have heard of half the really good artists if it wasn't for sharing and so, if anyone over comes to my town, I'll go see them play. give and take....
sorry but if it's all about the money then why are you into an underground scene? that's life and it's nothing new. who hasn't copied tapes or cd's in the past?
peace.

A half eaten can of worms and a bag of old chestnuts for tea then?
This thread is full of cliches on both sides.
The bottom line is this - if you share tracks on Torrents etc that you've been given in confidence by the artist(s), you are a spastic maggot that deserves a flagpole up your backside.

What ever side of the fence you stand on the whole download issue, the fact of the matter is that some one has trusted some one else with a tune that they spent time and effort on and that trust has been thrown back in their face, and thats fucking shit. Especially an artist that is just getting his first releases. Learn your lesson and have faith in a bit of karma.

exactly. this is 2007. long gone are the days when the argument about "it's good exposure" is a valid one. between google, myspace, itunes and podcasts, blog's, record store clips, and forum like ours; good music is over-exposed and over-documented. basically, there's no more excuses.Search wrote:What ever side of the fence you stand on the whole download issue, the fact of the matter is that some one has trusted some one else with a tune that they spent time and effort on and that trust has been thrown back in their face, and thats fucking shit. youre only "over-exposed" once you are within it though. i only know to check the myspace pages, fwd podcasts, this forum etc now. before i had no idea.seckle wrote:this is 2007. long gone are the days when the argument about "it's good exposure" is a valid one. between google, myspace, itunes and podcasts, blog's, record store clips, and forum like ours; good music is over-exposed and over-documented. basically, there's no more excuses.
i agree that someone betraying your trust is bad though, but the outcome is another thing.

Seriously? Are you sure about that? I've never seen any of Loefah's unreleased stuff on soulseek, or any of yours.pete bubonic wrote:I understand what you're saying and just as there is Loefah's latest beat on slsk, I'm sure my forthcoming ones are as well.
Sharing unreleased tunes is totally out of order. Arguments in favour of file sharing are all well and good but completely irrelevant here - when it comes to dubs, the issue is just the basic principles of trust and respect.
Downloading is not a probem if you pay for it, artists deserve to get paid for good work they do.
I don't think anyone can justify stealing music by saying its ok coz its underground music! If you want to hear the latest tunes download a mix from barefiles or here, or you could listen to rinse online. Shit until a few years ago most peope on this froum would have never listened to a london pirate station.
or you could go to a rave, its not underground pinching poor quality files from limewire.

I can see this is a very emotive subject, but as somebody who only got into dubstep pretty reccently, i must say it was mostly from people pointing me to myspace pages an barefiles mixes or bits of sets snip'd down used as ringtones etc...plus....i would pressume most dubsteppa's are not lashin much wonga on vynl unless they have decks, like myself...
i agree that people shouldn't share a track u sent for their own personal use...but say sum1 records your shit off your myspace an mixes it for THEY own listening pleasure....is that acceptable??
also, whoever mentioned iTunes...you have to pay on there! an i can only ever find 28gramms on there LoL

i haven't finished one dubstep track, and people just refuse to share my unfinished loops of unfulfilled potential. you may be losing money, but i'm losing self-esteem. why won't they torrent my late-night stoned meanderings?Batfink wrote:my mixdowns are so shit no one bothers putting them on soulseek. cunning eh?
Here, have a free tune:

Illegal sharing of dubstep is just out of order. There are no ifs, no buts, it undermines the industry because if everyone took the same attitude no one would buy the tunes.
The most used excuse, and I see someone on here tried it on in that earlier sharing thread, is that it doesn't do any harm because you are just taking a copy - nothing is lost. Its bullshit, if you couldn't get it for free, you might think about actually paying a few quid for tunes on bleep or buying the vinyl/CD. So that is lost revenue, and these small dubstep labels aren't exactly raking it in in spades are they? Every lost sale means something.
I'd like to see all the people who say filesharing is not doing anyone any harm actually say it to the faces of the artists whose work they just stole.
