Making/Inspiration for Lead Synths
so far ive got pretty good at drums and bass, but its lead synths that im shit at and its making the whole process of writing a tune way longer, when i've been more focused on bass i just picked a preset and adapted it, but starting from scratch i just cant seem to make good ones...
does anybody know any good links to tutorials or something?
i use massive / albino got the whole layout and stuff sorted im just not great at creating sounds

Re: Making/Inspiration for Lead Synths
take a preset lead sound you like and reverse engineer it and go from there. what i did till i got good at knowing synthesis in and out
Re: Making/Inspiration for Lead Synths
Well it depends, often times the sounds themselves dictate their musical structure. In that case, the sound comes first and generates the music. But other times, and I think this is where you are at, the music comes first and you have to create a sound to fit it. If that is the case, just really imagine how the sound sounds, and start working towards it. If you can't get there, try and post up a specifically titled question, preferably with a reference to another song that has a similar sound in it.
But underlying your question seems to be an expectation that this should be quick or easy. It is not. It takes time. Years. So just keep doing it.

Re: Making Lead Synths
if i was you. i would read up on how synths work on wiki, and also google any synth related words that you don't know what they mean. i would also read the manual of what ever synth your using. this should make trying to crate the sounds in your head much easier because your not shooting in the dark any more.
if you are just starting out with synths i would recomend some thing a little less heavy weight then massive or albino because they have lots of tabs and options that can be confussing if you don't understand the basic princables of synths. i think this is a mistake that many people make when starting out (trying to run before you can walk). if your using fl studio i would recomend the 3xosc to start with and learn it in side out.
if you got any examples of the sort of sounds you want to make, post up a link and, i will try help you make it if you want.
sorry for any bad spellings and stuff

i always say in my mind "yeah id like to do something similar but with my own touch" about some synths i hear, then look at massive and just feel lost straight away!nowaysj wrote:Well it depends, often times the sounds themselves dictate their musical structure. i think the most notable ones are like noah d - serious the kind of "g" lead that sounds like it has a low dirty part to it too
and the "chorus" synth that comes in on digidesign by joker
btw is the best methodology for programmin a synth:
oscillator
envelopes
filter
track fx
(in that order)

depends what sort of sound your going far, you need to be more specific with your question. Either post a WIP of your track or link to a track that has the kind of sound your going for.

Re: Making/Inspiration for Lead Synths
Usually the lead is the first thing I think about so I just fiddle around with some synths for a bit and then add everything else around that to compliment it, so I guess you could reverse that and think about everything that isn't in your tracck already that you could incorporate into a lead
How does I wobbled bass?
