there's several types of democracy. your country chooses a democracy lead by your parliament. your elected parliament has universal control over your country. the parliament has even more power than your legal system. the US democracy operates differently, in that we separate our governments powers into organs (state, federal, judiciary, congress, house of representatives, etc).

both our countries operate on the mandate of free speech, but in modern times with the growth of liberal democracy, this freedom of speech has come with society's prerequisites....ie...equal rights without discrimination. this is what i don't understand about how the BNP is still allowed to persist? they clearly discriminate, in a open way as well.

I don't understand - Surely you answered your own question, the BNP is allowed to persist because our country operates on the mandate of free speech. We're not in a position to go around closing down political parties who commit no crime in promoting their views, lest we become as fascist as the BNP themselves.

of course we have extremists. we're a bigger country. the point here is that our dressed up extremists are attached to the right wing conservatism; i guess similar to your ultra royalist torys. in both our country's the ultra right wing conservatives are corrupt beyond belief, but they don't need to resort to violence. we have our extremist fringe groups, and so do you. the difference is that these fringe groups would never make it in our election system at the national level (arizona aside, as they've run a twisted puppet gov for years, and are well known supporters of bigotry.)
