FREE KUTMAH!
One of Los Angeles' most talented and influential DJ's, Justin McNulty aka Kutmah, has been detained by immigration and is now in New Mexico under INS control. He is set for immediate deportation unless we can convince authorities to reopen the case and show them how much Los Angeles and the US need and love him and his talents.

Justin is a dear friend of mine and it tears me apart to see this happen. I can't stand thinking about him leaving...please, I ask you all from the bottom of my heart to help out and do something as simple as sign the petition and pass this along to your friends. This man has much more influence than you would think. He's one of the forefathers of the so called "Beat Scene" that is blossoming today. Please give back.
thank you.

Re: FREE KUTMAH!
Kutmah is an absolute badman, one of my favourite Dj's for a while now with some of the most eclectic mixes I've heard.
would be a terrible thing if he gets deported

Re: FREE KUTMAH!
people should def spread the word wherever possible
Re: FREE KUTMAH!
we really need to spread the word as much as possible on this. Kutmah is also a good friend and it is extremely upsetting to think how he and his mum must be feeling.
So, get your friends and their friends to sign the petition, spread the word, post on twitters/facebooks/whatever and let's make sure that he doesn't have to leave the US.
I can't stress how serious this is.

signed. illum is write we all need to spread the word, this is really shocking.
Re: FREE KUTMAH!
I've only met Kutmah once but I better fucking meet him again.
Re: FREE KUTMAH!
It's really sad for Kutmah.
But this is happening everywhere, especially in Europe with africans being sent back to their home land, this deportation shit is new to the US ...
Hope Kutmah finds his way out of it and that this sad experience won't damage his willingness to continue doing what he does (in the US or elsewhere) ...

Re: FREE KUTMAH!
Kutmah started Sketchbook, which was the first place in LA that was playing early Dabrye, Prefuse, Dimlite, Oizo, Jneiro, Dilla productions alongside others, Take and Ras_G were the other residents. Anyway, Lotus (pre 1983 LP), Sam, the Stones Throw boys used to go down. He recently started the night up again because people wanted it back so much.Matt3r wrote:i've no idea who he is.
where are they planning on sending him?
Anyway, long story short, without Kutmah, the LA beat scene may not have been so fruitful so soon, or so good.

Re: FREE KUTMAH!
If you're going to say that a person should not be deported based on the fact that he/she is a good DJ; well honestly don't, it would be better for his case if people refrained from saying anything like that at all imo
but on the other hand there is strong case to be made about the moral correctness of the situation, and thats the better (and more effective) angle to take, because it doesnt seem like you're trying to help someone because they're your friend or you appreciate them as an artist, but because you genuinely want that person to be treated justly whatever their occupation or lifestyle
