The lower the frequency, the less you hear it and the more you feel it. All sound is pressure variation in the air. Above a certain frequency, most sound travels around the room directionally, bouncing off things, being absorbed, etc. Below that frequency, you can think of the sound more as changing the pressure in the entire room. It's more feeling that hearing.
But beware that the shape and volume of the room now comes into play as well as your speakers positions. You could very easily excite resonances in the room that will create bass that wasn't in the program material. A good rule of thumb is to have good dispersion in any room. Furniture, stuff on the wall, carpet will all help. The second thing is to play with the position of your subs if you can. If you have more than one, spread them out. Walk around the room and see if the bass is stronger in certain places. Try to get it the same everywhere.
Most of you already know this. My 2 cents.

It's true! But if they cross me they get sliced, diced, boiled and mashed up - grizzly business. You haven't truely made it until you've been carved into a dubstep potato head.Dom wrote:Kion told me he has a secret allotment where he grows potatoes which he carves into models of his favourite dubstep producers. isn't dubstep's ultra low bass just a bit of an illusion?
the space and room giving leeway for the sub to stay low but also to move up into a more audible range? giving the perception of it being larger than life.
Lots of music has ultra low sub.. some miami bass I have shakes the room just as much as my dubstep however the clutter of the drums in the 80hz-150hz range interferes with that all encompassing bass experience dubstep gives.
what the fuck do I know though.

I am not sure what you mean by ''its own frequency''If you are asking are there frequencys in dubstep that are not in other music then the answer is no,Dub step just has more bass than other genres.slowlygoingdeaf wrote:so would you say dubstep has "its own frequency" or it just allows the bass more room and prominence on the track?Jtransition wrote:If anyone has any specific bass questions i will try to answer them.

A lot of dubstep tunes will have bass going down to about 35Hz, below that a lot of it would be rolled off before cutting. Most small club systems will roll off fairly sharply below 45Hz, and bigger systems around 35Hz.
In DNB, kicks will often reside in a slightly higher frequency window than the bassline, to prevent it sounding muddy. Dubstep often has a more sparse texture and there are often more pure sine tones in the bass, so dubstep kicks are often lower than dnb.
Old jungle had plenty of sub, some modern jumpup dnb is for the "phone on a bus" or "£30 hifi" crew, and bass only seems to go down to about 70Hz
It's the pure waveforms and depth of dubstep basslines that give it the 'meditate on bass weight' vibe, but there's certainly plenty of dnb stuff that goes as low frequency wise. Commix - Talk to Frank
The 'punch in your chest' kicks are present in both dubstep, dnb and house. They'll often have the weight around 55-70Hz, and most club systems can reproduce this with quite a thump. In house there's often not much going on musically below about 70Hz.
