how do i fix this?!

Post by An Expresso » Thu May 20, 2010 3:51 am

the lead synth in this song i made that starts at the beginning of this tune sounds good but when i turn up the volume it sounds distorted and horrible, does anyone know how i'd go about fixing that? :u:
i havent finished mixing it at all so that could be the problem but i'd like to hear some ways to fix it by you guys who know more, any ideas on how to fix the bassline too, the sub part of it sounds all fucked up.

please and thanks, and heres the song

Everything seems really really loud man, have you put a limiter on the end of that or is that straight from the project with no gain-bumping?

If it's straight from the project then everything is way too loud, have a read in the production bible about gain structure and mixing  . Whatcha need to do is lower the volume of everything and mix the track at a lower volume, and then at the end stick a limiter on or something that will bump up the volume to normal levels. That should stop the synth being distorted!

Love the drum work in that track btw!

Probably due to lack of headroom. Bring everything down and try again!

Gaaaaaaaaaain down.
imho, here's the gain settings I roughly start with (in logic pro)

Drums - All round off at -10db
bass, mid bass at -12db
Leads, pads at -13-16db

Of course just go by ear and edit as you go, but that's pretty good to give you enough headroom on the master!

ENJOY! - ps, also lovin' the drum work man. Bigup.
