Mastering
Looking for somewhere to get 15/16 tracks mastered.
I'm not very good at this you see and spent ages reading threads and threads and the best I do is just shove in a limiter and a booster other than that, I think a pro needs to do it, or someone who actually know what they're doing!
Any suggestions on places which do cheap/BLOODY GOOD mastering on baaaaaree tracks?

Oh my god, I feel so embarrassed for asking about mastering.

Nahhh... Don't be embarrassed asking about mastering, just know that you get what you pay for.
There ARE really good options who give you great value for your money, but there are no magic wand answers that will do the best job in the world for the cheapest amount of money.
In fact - while I don't know their rates off-hand (the labels paid for the services) I am more than happy to recommend the best mastering engineers I have worked with.

Re: Mastering
Appreciate it.
I've tried doing it myself, but mastering is artform in itself so I think someone who knows it better should do it.
I'm using Izotope at the moment. Which is good as a limiter, booster and little effects on drums, but I don't know of any other software to use to improve the quality of my sound without having to go and spend a heap load of cash on mastering!!

Re: Mastering
Its all in the mix anyways, a good mix down is play-outable without any mastering and for releases, i'd rather buy a tune what has a good mix down and no mastering than a tune with a shit master whats crushed... Just my 2cents.
Get good at mixing down and save your pennies for a good mastering job for releases or if you just wanna play out tunes, just make sure you're mixing down at a decent level (-5/-6db) and turn up the gain on the mixer.
why DO you want mastering is more of the question than where do I get mastering done.

Re: Mastering
Well I've been working as hard as possible to get a better sound. I even thought it might have been the speakers, so I bought monitors, it improved the way I perceive the sound to be but it doesn't improve the quality, So I rerecorded some drums in the studio and tried that.legend4ry wrote:

This is an example of a track where I just can't get "that level" of quality:
So I decided, maybe I should try mastering and see how it comes out...

Re: Mastering
Mastering is like painting an amazing artpiece, then putting it in a frame so it'll forever be perfect, thats all!
I know how you feel about wanting them to sound like everyone else 'big in the game' but throwing money at it isn't the answer, you just gotta keep doing things like mix downs till it finally "clicks".
Anyways, sounds like I am just telling you off hahaha.
Macc is the man who everyone seems to jump to on this board.

Re: Mastering
Hey, Macc is great and he's very professional with his work, but if you can't afford his price tag there are some others floating around the board as well. Charlie from Ascension Sound has a good ear and will do right by your tune for a bit cheaper (he's also in the states), check out his site at: http://soundcloud.com/ascension-sound/
Good results for the price, I was very satisfied.
