My Tunes Always Sound Quiet

Why do all my songs end up quiet? Theyre not quiet in FL Studio but when I export them i have to turn my speakers up to hear them properly in iTunes, why are they so quiet?

if the exported file sounds noticeably quiter in itunes then itunes is turned down... unless you're clipping to a ridiculous extent, in which case refer to above thread ^

don't worry that your track is not as loud as all the other stuff on your itunes. your tracks are quieter because they have not been mastered. my advice to you if you want to bring the volume up is to get the best mix-down you can. then after (not before) put a limiter on your master with a few db of gain to bring up the volume by squshing them peaks. this is not a substitute for pro mastering but, is usefull to get a idea how your tracks will stand up to other tracks and for putting them on soundcloud ect...

i recently bought the book "Mastering Audio- The Art and the Science" written by Bob Katz... I've only been able to read a few chapters but the amount of information in it is absolutely worth the $50 i paid for it on amazon
