You say that like 128 is actually ALRIGHT on anything other than ipod earbuds. That shit always seems to sound horrible on any decent system. It's not the same at all, anyone who would actually pay for any of these tunes in the first place would say that 128 isn't good enough, it's not losing sales, these people who think youtube rips sounds good enough aren't about to shell out the cash anyway..luthervandub wrote:I know people who rip from youtube and the bit rate is 128 standard every timevishnu wrote:Mt. Even though there's "HQ" stuff on youtube, doesn't means it's always at a high bit rate.. I find they're compression on tracks makes everything sound tinny tbh..
Fact is, people are always going to pirate music - in any way shape or form. I would never rip a song off youtube, but I'd be lying if I said I've never recorded samples from youtube..
Oh and people playing out youtube rips? DEAR GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS.

Youtube quality is bad enough on home systems, I can't imagine what it'd be like on a club system. Clipping all over the shop?
Thank fuck I've never had to witness it.

True say though, it sounds so fucking bad. Was sitting in a psychology class about a year ago, next to me was this kid ripping Basshunter off youtube to play out on a big soundsystem at a house party he was planning to have. I almost stabbed him with a pencil. He said "Nah man seriously, it sounds well good. Basshunter's sick."

Re: uploading tunes to youtube is the same as file shareing
I admit to getting twocked stuff off the net from my mates but it's only unreleased material for listening at my own leisure, I also buy anything I've done this with so I can play it out (I know some heads from the local scene wouldn't look too kindly on me having unreleased stuff even they don't have and playing bad quality tunes isn't my thing). Tbh I don't play anything 'unofficial' unless it's a mix as a filler at a party or something, there's so much free stuff out there anyway I don't see the point in banging out something off youtube because someone higher up's already gonna have played it (as better quality, too) and therefore it's lost it's luster... I like random stuff, even if it's not 'dubplate' I highly doubt that many other people have got some of the stuff I've got lolvishnu wrote:Mt. I buy music when I've got the money anyway, got over 150 CDs of rock, punk, reggae, metal, 60s pop, folk.. I'm not stopping anytime soon either as my collection isn't complete! I buy albums as well for the artwork and the physical properties of the product like the material casing (I like fancy cardboard ones, Slipknot's first album is pretty good, few others as well). Plastic CDs look a bit insubstantial anyway, and I can't be arsed with downloading music because it looks like too much effort to fix it if it goes wrong. Virgin was a good record shop as you swipe any CD's barcode and listen to the whole thing, made it easier to pick and you don't need a computer!
Selling musical digitally is slitting your own throat in my opinion, one person can just kill your whole business

Youtube sound, even HQ/720 sounds awful. I think the people who rip from youtube are ones that wouldn't normally purchase actual tracks. They'd rip, play on ipod headphones, then forget about it in a month.

It's official then, this is much to do about nothing.

90 percent of the people i know either have no idea how to rip stuff off youtube or no desire to. and they all love new and interesting music. end of story.

call me captian hook...cause im broke and like to mix, witch means if your a true mole...your digging in deep sea sunken wrecks to find your shit
the true music lovers are the ones who get thier fix no matter what...sneakin in and not complying to laws.
of course if i was to play for anyone other than myself one day and i decide to use other songs than my own...I would defiantly make sure the credit is owed to the people that gave me inspiration, striving to make sure the quality file was purchased from its respected source so they can at least make an effort to come up with new sounds from the money I give them.

Re: uploading tunes to youtube is the same as file shareing
Its not like file sharing because the quality on youtube is so poor, so many elements of the track would just be distorted or removed such as the bass etc - any DJ that plays music under 320 should be shot!

Exactly, in this case youtubes can only serve to increase sales. You tube is the new radio, but you get to choose every song you listen to. No DJ imposing their taste on your sonic explorations. End of story.chill chace wrote:call me captian hook...cause im broke and like to mix, witch means if your a true mole...your digging in deep sea sunken wrecks to find your shit

Inspector follows the rules that labels provide him when he uploads shit. We say clips, low quality, no intro to outro and he abides by it.
As far as other people uploading stuff, if it bothers the artist or label, youtube is mega cool about taking shit down. It's ultimately up to a label if they feel an upload is a promotional blessing or infringing on their sales.... any half-assed label monitors that shit and makes the judgement themselves.

Re: uploading tunes to youtube is the same as file shareing
I think the way youtube handles it is bloody deplorable tbh.pkay wrote:youtube is mega cool about taking shit down.
Fair enough that a label or artist wants the tracks taken down (don't know why though, personally. Less exposure...), but to have the uploader's entire account CLOSED? Shit as. Have the vids taken down, that's enough.
I've got 2 friends who upload their own work/random stuff for friends and family overseas. They head to a concert, do some innocent filming, sometimes even before the actual concert starts ie. no footage of music/artists, and bam, their account gets closed due to some tnuc having a hissy fit. Ridiculous way of handling it.
Also, I've heard stories of people's accounts getting closed because someone IRL who doesn't like them makes a few different accounts, then lodges copyright claims. Very little evidence is needed to show youtube that it is infact a copyright claim in the first place.
Re: uploading tunes to youtube is the same as file shareing
Yes its a great way of promotion but it also means people don't need to go far to find music, this means the quality control has reduced. The whole thing with 'dubstep' was that the DJ would go out of his way to find new music, now all they need to type is 'dubstep' and it will come up with a bunch of utter shit!

legal 320 mp3 download is only 99p FFS!
it's not gonna break the bank is it really???
sure check tunes out on youtube but for the effort of ripping a crap quality mp3, you might as well spend 99p and get the full high-quality track with artwork etc.
(*cough* submotion orchestra EP is out now on iTunes/Amazon/Beatport! *cough*)

True of most electronic genres. But given the amount of information on the web, people can do their own research, and find quality tracks, can be referred by friends etc.philippo wrote:The whole thing with 'dubstep' was that the DJ would go out of his way to find new music, now all they need to type is 'dubstep' and it will come up with a bunch of utter shit!
