It's not exactly a revelation but it is quite interesting.Creativity is akin to insanity, say scientists who have been studying how the mind works.
Brain scans reveal striking similarities in the thought pathways of highly creative people and those with schizophrenia.
Both groups lack important receptors used to filter and direct thought.
It could be this uninhibited processing that allows creative people to "think outside the box", say experts from Sweden's Karolinska Institute.

all i've ever heard from childhood upward is two things
"you're weird."
and
"you're so creative"

Certainly not a viceversa situation.. i know a few weird ones who would also have to be some of the dullest / most uncreative people out

Check out the criteria and you'll see it does apply to everyone... Schizophrenia is such an ambiguous term. Also, creative minds function in ways that dull minds will perpetually tend to label as abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality. In creative terms, 'schizophrenia' is pertaining to acts that prevent the encouragement of a mind acting like a machine (read up on some of Terrence McKenna's principles and mix it with some Dali if you're intruiged by this)
Besides, it's far more cringe worthy to be the ironic class of special attention seekers claiming to be individual through never admitting to simple things that apply to the masses. [Anti hipster kiddios] Unless of course you're being honest and genuinely lack any real creative talents capable of stirring up other peoples' thoughts, in which case the zomger specials will recognise you as mere imitaters and actors. Not meaning to be a tnuc, is just a shock to see 'creative minds' that are unable to comprehend something as simple as this factor

Re: "Creative minds 'mimic schizophrenia'"
It's not that. It's just the whole "I'm mental" thing. Most people are pretty weird or have something bizarre about them. A lot of people seem to try and claim they're weirder than other people. It's another thing people seem to use to one up each other.BLAHBLAHJAH wrote:?Motorway to Roswell wrote:Yeah, makes me cringe.incnic wrote:i love how everyone instantly applies this to themselves

Re: "Creative minds 'mimic schizophrenia'"
Ayeee I get you man, but simple things like this I'd say apply to all creative acts... Relative thinking innit! People like Galileo got placed under house arrest for having a demonic way with the way his mind thought the world could be spherical. To be honest I'd say people devoid of any schizophrenic traits are the ones with mental illness that will confine them to a dull unproductive life ruled by a local dialect, leaving no stain or influence to the future of the world.
Besides, creativity without personal 'mental' influences is basically just the formulated pop music to sell to the masses of (unthinking) people that forge that market
I know the kind of morons you're on about though. Had some friends that would whine on about me boshing drugs to be cool, whilst all the time they're sat being unique taking valium and hacking up their arms to a nine inch nails CD. In cases like that, 'fuck 'em don't feed 'em'

I don't have a problem with 'mental' people or creative people. Just people who go out of their way to appear mental. Everyone knows one.
There was a guy at my school who was like that. Used to eat raw heart in the science lessons and stuff. Arsehole.
