there is actually a company with software that has "virtual auditory drugs" using this
messed around with some of em and some had no effect some had a noticeable one, but it also had me thinking half of it could be the power of suggestion and expectation.

looked into the theory behind it after finding there was some implimentation of it in a record by Ethernet called 144 Pulsations Of Light.

i haven't used it in any music but i did sit and try it out for a while. the effect is pretty heady. i quite like it.

Yea, I think I remember seeing that a long time ago, didn't know they were using this though. I tried a couple too, but same thing, no effect really, I reckon you're right on power of suggestion and expectation, although it did seem quite credible from what I read before doing it.

You guys should check out Ryoji Ikeda, and his album Matrix. Lots of interesting stuff giong on there, i think he uses this a lot as well!

messed around with this back in the day, in my early impressionable high school years even went about trying to simulate the frequencies involved with heroic psychedelic doses ... put it on a disc and a friend said his vision skewed enough to be noticable but i never had anything happen outside of a minor headache.

of course ive always heard rumors of groups like throbbing gristle and butthole surfers using frequencies to cause people in the crowd to involuntarily hurl/piss/shat themselves but who knows

Awesome topic. The CIA used these techniques in certain programs to "synch" both sides of the brain and to aid in remote viewing ans ESP. Look up "hemi-synch". It's a branded product. I actually listened to a few of the Hemi-Synch tapes. Crazy stuff, let me tell you. Also, a lot of new age producers utilize the solfegio tones (528hz ="love" etc....) and binaural beating in combination. The music itself is a little cheesy but it's a cool idea.

I've been using a bit of Hemi Sync. There's actually one recording called Between Worlds that has the most amazing marimba section at the end of it. It's great because the whole time it's these ambient textures and rain forest noises etc. leading you down into a theta trance and it pulls you out of it right with a didgeridoo part into this fantastic melodic section. It feels like waking up right before a sunrise. I'd recommend it just for the end section alone.

Of course I tried the iDoser thing before and didn't really get results. I think they rely a lot on the placebo affect along with the different brainwave states that binaurals actually can produce to get kids to think they feel the effects. The problem is however, in order for binaurals to be able to affect you, you need to practice meditation enough to be able to completely relax and quiet your mind. You also need to go somewhat gradually or else you'll just black out when you get near theta and you won't really be able to experience the benefits.

As far as these benefits go, there's binaural recordings for loads of things like lucid dreaming (what initially got me interested in Hemi Sync), out of body experiences, anxiety reduction, diet and addiction help, etc.

As well there's a newer technology called Isochronic Tones which is like amplitude modulation instead of stereo detuning. Same sort of idea but it doesn't require stereo headphones from what I understand. There's companies that use binaural beats, monaural beats, and isochronic tones all in tandem to get the desired effect. (I think hemi sync might be one of them)

Remember it's a meditation tool, not a magic solution. It takes yogis decades to get their minds to be able to slip in and out of these different states so don't expect immediate results the first time you try. It requires practice like every thing else.

Interesting to get OBE type experience right away. What binaurals were you using?

I've tried to listen to multiple different sound files and different programs advertising of these types of effects through these sounds. I've NEVER had anything happen. Unless I was already fucked up to begin with. I don't know if I can even say I believe it can be done, or at least that it can be reproduced to a point where all these different people know how to do it. Maybe it's just the stuff I've heard was done by someone that had no idea what they were really doing.

I believe that the brain can do some amazing things, and I do believe that sound frequencies can cause stimulation within parts of the brain that can have noticeable effects. I just don't think they are that easy to reproduce into a product you can have whenever you want. I've listened to music that has relaxed me, made me fall asleep, made me feel angry or sad, but I've never listened to anything that has ever caused psychedelic effects or any sort of "High" like feeling.
