The Marcia Blaine School For Girls - Halfway Into The Woods, their debut album that's been on the cards for ages. can preview it at http://www.last.fm/music/The+Marcia+Bla ... +The+Woods

should check out all their other linked projects

they have a few live sets available to dl as well through their homepage (or at least they did)

merck is pure quality.

ok.. some fresh picks.

andy stott, his lp (merciless on modern love) from last year is +++

clark (former chris clark), all time favourites, and his new lp is very nice as well.

dj signify - sleep no more, contemporary hiphop sickness from the label Lex.. been on my playlist since the release, top shit.

the three albums I come back to the most:

Image

Rednose Distrikt - Iller Dan Je Ouders - Kindred Spirit

wicked mid-tempo LP, wanders from disco/house to more downbeat to really wonky broken riddims. A good sense of humour and loads of really nice organic sampling. An absolute pleasure from start to finish, and also v popular with all my female friends.

Image

Jeremy Ellis - The Lotus Blooms - Ubiquity

more broken stuff. Think the bloke spent a while in Costa Rica or somewhere jamming and sampling, then went home and start cutting/sequencing. Fucking mad 808 latin broken techno funk. Bombakiss and Callelunakarma - Movements 1 to 4 are corkers.

Image

DJ Krush - Meiso - Mo'Wax

can't help digging this out on a weekly basis. Guest MCs are all pretty good, the beats are perfect. Last track w/DJ Shadow is genius.

some different flavours...

Image

Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabaté - In The Heart Of The Moon

ridiculously deep, primarily improvised duet from two of africa's greatest modern musicians, playing kora (kind of an african harp) and acoustic 6-string guitar. beautiful music

Image

Ry Cooder & V.M. Bhatt - A Meeting At The River

the meeting of the american roots/blues tradition with the highly acclaimed contemporary exponent of indian string-based classical, who plays an instrument he invented and built himself, combining the sitar, sarod & veena techniques with hawaiian guitar. its so sick

Image

Rokia Traore - Bowmboi

incredible Malian music, from a woman with the softest, most beautiful voice conceivable

Africa must be free by 1983 - Hugh Mundell, produced by Augustus Pablo.

If a top 5 was possible for me, then this would be in it.

Mundell was 16 when he wrote and sung on this album. His voice is beautifully haunting and angelic, his lyrics; wise beyond their years.

Pablo draws the sound together with total mastery and control to craft Mundell's conscious offering.

some people prefer the Dub version of the album but for my preference has always been with Mudell at the forefront.

Other Mundell Albums, although good, don't quite compare to his work with Pablo.

I will never get weary of listening to this album.

you know it bro! hoor's and mo's are the shit, domu's remix of nyb is one of his best too imo.

a promising new artist in the instrumental dirt-hop section is flying lotus, check his album 1983.

and personally i can't get enough of shed's detroit inspired techno, some of which has heavy offbeat rhythms. czech it: www.soloaction.de

One of my fave techno albums - hard minimal bangers, if you like Basic Channel and some of Andy Stott's stuff this should be right up your alley.

Image

Lovely tech influenced dub, there's also another album with the vocal versions

Image

Diamond D - Stunts Blunts and Hip Hop - to my mind one of the finest hip hop party albums ever, along with...

Image

Not too sure but I think this is early MF Doom, cool funky breakbeat hip hop, real looseness of beat.

Image

Fuckin classic Pete Rock and Diamond D production - features the original sample from Renegade Master.

Image

Their second album, bit darker and more experimental than the first but a bit of a lost classic (you should be able to get this and the first album on a double cd for about £8 )
Hmm....
