Educate people about dubstep.
Educate people about dubstep.
Lately ive notice kids walking round with fucking rusko caspa coming out of there phones. Like really. You cant listen to dubstep out of a phone it doesnt do it justice. And know its getting more commmertial and you got all these new people listening to it when they know nothing about the music. They're just listening to it because they think its "somthing new/fresh" they need to be educated man.
Show them some early Skream, Mala, digital mystikz, horsepower and they would be like no no this aint dubstep. They think its just wobble wobble wobble. because all these kids know is fucking rusko, caspa oh and Mt Eden. Everytime a sound gets commercial it goes down hill and Its happening to dubstep plain and simple.
I just really want to know what your oppinion is on the changing face of dubstep? and where you see it going.

Re: Educate people about dubstep.
its becoming a fashion statement
Re: Educate people about dubstep.
It's terrible, but unfortunately it's happening... I try to educate people around my age group of 17-18, but they're more into Borgore-esque stuff. Most of them are just jumping on the bandwagon and I've devised a name for them - the Lloyds TSB crew (type in 'dubstep' in YouTube and see what everyone's jumping on)
Re: Educate people about dubstep.
I think that dubstep is heading in two directions, sure there is the wobble kids that listen to rusko and caspa with their phones, but just ignore it. Look at the other side... Mount Kimbie, Von D, Ikonika, Darkstar all releasing albums this year. I just choose to ignore the borgore mt eden stuff and concentrate on all the great things coming out of hemlock, hyperdub, medi, swamp81 etc, there's even a new MALA LP. Just turn the other cheek

why you need to educate mofos? if they started liking it you'd be like "shit dmz is getting too popular". the fact that kanye is big doesn't affect my enjoyment of real hip-hop. playing dubstep out of a phone is pretty funny though. i hope i hear a dubstep ringtone soon.sdoh9 wrote:Lately ive notice kids walking round with fucking rusko caspa coming out of there phones. Re: Educate people about dubstep.
I guess the fact that I know about Dubstep means it's becoming mainstream.. Which is shitty in a way and good in another way... I've listened to old, new, newer, older, oldest, and newest Dubstep because I like to learn, in depth about shit that's new to me. Educating people about the genre (or anything they don't know about for that matter) is a good thing, but some people don't want to learn. You can't make them care..
Usually the type of people that previously underground genres draw in is the mainstream crowd, and they don't care about the culture of it, that's what makes them mainstream.
The good news is when something that was underground sells out to the mainstream, the underground producers/mixers become more creative and create a new genre that's influenced by the original. The evolution of music, and without it, we would still be listening to the music of the 1800's.

get over it.
let people listen to what they want. surely its better if people find their own music rather than being told what to listen to.

Plenty of good quality stuff coming out but i do see your point. It is annoying how misrepresented dubstep is, especially because of impressionable teenagers who get into nonsensical noise and show a complete lack of regard towards original dubstep and it's history. However, popularity seeking children have no taste and they never will because it's dictated by commercialism which is lacking in any depth or substance whatsoever, so don't hold your breath on them ever appreciating any tasteful music.
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

Kanye is great, but it's not »real hip hop« and it never was supposed to be. And so is the new Rusko album for example. He doesn't want it to be real dubstep. »It's not superdeep«, you knowBullshark wrote:sofa_king wrote:

Re: Educate people about dubstep.
IME most people dont care and those that do educate themselves.
you can't force people to dig deeper.
give it time.
most of the kids who only got into it for one style will dissapate with time as they jump on the next train.
and all i'll have to say is:

Re: Educate people about dubstep.
Ok first post on this forum, so probs gonna get noob slated but whatevs.
I first got into dub bout a year ago, just like these kids that OP is chatting about. I loved the filth mid range sounds of all the artists that are hated on this forum. But at least more people are getting in to it right? Even if it isn't because there listening to "proper" dubstep. I have now been shown the error of my ways, pretty much cant stand tear out/wobble and am much more on a Distance/JSL/Kryptic Minds/DMZ tip now.
Basically my point is wouldn't you rather people who have never heard any dubstep, to be listening to the likes of borgore, Rusko etc, then not at all? Once they have listened to said artists for a while, they will all get bored (As i did) and be looking for something deeper within the genre. Then move onto bass weight and the deeper sounds of dubstep.
