Haha I see what you're saying...But I meant it from a prudiction point of view...Bare in mind, as far as I'm aware (from a few things I've read), you would start off at a certain tempo (lets say140 :D )...When I said 'obscure' I was only really referring to the the fact that you wouldn't go into building a track blind at say, 141 would you? That's all I was saying...

But thank you for your input...

well i'm not strictly a dubstep producer, but yeah i would. whatever i'm in the mood for making i'll change up the bpm right before i lay down a single note. the thing i hate about dubstep and other genres of edm is the whole bpm constraint. no jazz ( or rock, soul, etc.) musicians or fans were ever like "wtf this isnt 100bpm so it's not jazz, let's name it jazzcorestep." subgenres were based on more sound defining things like composition and instrumentation.

I do quite often start tracks at +2/-2 what I usually would just so that all my tracks don't end up being at the same tempo though (then they might get changed as I work on the track).

I agree. But it's all part and parcel of Electronic Dance Music and it's relationship with DJing culture.

But this wasn't the discussion I was trying to have with the creation of this thread.

it depends on the kind of work.

if i'm about to doo something original, and i can choose myself, i'd take the easyest rate 140 for Dubstep....

But it can happen, while i'm producing something, i'm putting a vocal in to it / or even when i make a remix, it has to sound right ofthen then i doo a compromise or i just take the half/dubble or fulltime of the sample or vocal.

Tha'ts about it. that's why born with pain is on 136 - shine eye gal on 139 etc.

i just like to mix it up. part of making music is having fun with it and it's boring to me to always use the same tempo, so i change it.
