I'm also vaguely interested in this, though I doubt I'd ever use it

you need one delay to achieve comb filtering. google 'delay comb filter' for tips.

as for dedicated plugins, check out the ohmforce stuff. i think bifilter2 also has a nice comb inside.

i've never really figured out anything cool to do with a comb filter (using the one in massive). anyone have any tips on a nifty comb filter trick?

^

Best thing about 'rolling your own' is putting all sorts of crazy shit on the return/recombined signal, or not-too-messed up stuff on the delayed path, and if your routing allows it, the most spazmoloided insanibonkers shit in the feedback path.

Then automate the lot

I really don't know what you lot are talking about using delay to create a comb filter. But I'm going to get to the bottom of it.

Signal +(same signal delayed by very small amount) = comb filter. Simple :)

Once the delay gets longer than about 30ms (see Haas effect) then the brain perceives the delayed sound as a distinct echo, but before that it mashes it all together.

All a flanger is, is a comb filter with a slowly varying delay (and usually feedback).

Blatantly making a flanger effect automating the pitch but personaly I rarely use it for this.
What I like to do is using it without automation (on filter 1, filters in series) to fatten up my bass sounds. Basicly turn the pitch knob until it makes your bass sound better and adjust amount with the damping and feedback knobs.
It can really make a huge difference, particularly with some post filter distortion.

Oh is that what a comb filter is? I've been using this for ages without realising it. Another good thing to try is a chorus with a really short delay with the maximum amount of depth with all the LFOs turned off
