Just did a little remix of Shakira's She wolf, nothing major, but I like it, just thought I'd throw it out to you guys to see what everyone thinks. Could have done more but I'm happy with it I guess. Mix is a little rough since I'm using headphones but I couldn't be bothered waiting till tomorrow to put this up lol.

Will crit back...etc
I like almost everything about this tune, the clicky percussion works perfectly. The way all the melody seems to wind melt into the vocals and just work so well. The one thing i dont like is there snare. To me it sounds really stock and a bit too heavy for a tune like this? Really like the track though

Yea I was trying to combine my heavier drum kit that I use on dubstep tunes with the lighter one me and demille have been using in our 2-steppy tunes. Wasn't sure if it'd work or not. So that's why that big thick snare is there. I don't know what I was really trying to achieve if I'm honest, just seemed like a good idea at the time lol. I think you're right though, it does grate on me at times too.

@jayzest - at first i wasnt really feeling the melody, but i liked the change at 1:20, nice and heavy sub.

@hakka - this tune would've been massive without that annoying-fly-in-your-ear-wobble tune is great without it.

heres my newest finished tune:

imo i think the snare is good, it just needs more ambience to it. for some reason it just sounds like its more at the forefront of the tune compared to the rest of the precussion.

I think if you lower the velocity that will do the trick.
awesome beat though, great to listen to while your revising your crappy ass boring geography for a GSCE test the next day *hint hint* :P

the kick needs to be nice and bassy aswell. i would advise an 808 sub kick, but shorten it a little so it doesnt drone on for half a bar.

@Fuzz_2k Really cool spaced out rhoades sort of sound at the start, all the reg chords are fucking cool and really tasty musically, bass is fucking cool fat subbylicious :) Also love the subtle dealys proper old skool reggae sound, maybe some phasers on the delay or on a bus and chuck some things to them near the end get it really old skool sounding like Lee scratch P. But yeah loving the grove overall :)

Anyone want some swing step? :

@ AL4228

Likin the vocals but a little too over top cheese for me! Snare sounds like it has got too much reverb on it. Maybe try having two copies one with reverb and one with out, then mix them together and you still have the original punch of the snare and so it's not too drowned in reverb in the mix as it sounds like the one snare is in a much bigger box than the vocals, sounds a bit detached from the rest. Kick could be fatter as well.

@TDubz

I'm not gonna lie it doesn't sound very good, sounds like you made the sounds out of hitting biscuit tins, which is not bad thing, but they're not produced very well. Same with the kick, search for the thread I made with the decent samples in it thread's called "sample pack for da noobs" or something along those lines.
But yeah the over all tune sounds like some demented mutant cartoon music. But some would argue that's no bad thing, which it's not, but it's just produced really badly.

@offkey LB well that was filthy wasn't it, evil bowels of satan would like some more modulation of the bass, not extra wobbles, but other characteristics of the sound to change over time, for instance wavetable, or chuck a phase/flange sort of thing for a bar, and sort of change the timbre of the instrument, as although it sounds good, you could develop and evolve the bass over time to make it more interesting.

@Tripwire Cool relaxed vibe nice and musical, less of the angry wobble monster music ;) Really like this kind of liquid sounding dubstep, but bass could use some subtle low/mids to make it cut though on different sound systems. But really nice music you got going there. :)

@Kaori: check soundcloud ;)

@Sidereal: Not really sure about yours, the concept of the fast paced drums is good, but everything seems to not fit... The sounds ain't bad it's just that everything sounds out of place to me, or just pops in and leaves out of no where , if you get what im saying
Some of your transitions need some work too.

@JBE: Tight stuff man, maybe thicken up your drums, export your whole drum patterns as a .wav file, import again and add some compression? Rest is great

@Code Zero: Already told you what I think ;)

@Gombles: Your flute thing sounded SO like Rusko - King George stuff, it's nice you can tell it's nothin real serious but still had me chilling on it ! I was expecting a slightly less agressive bass but that's not really a problem.

@Trike: deep deep subs there man, and really digging the drums. Fat stuff nothing much to say it's near perfect for me.

@Tripwire: sounds okay, you need to tighten up all sounds , everything sounds abit weak for what I hear now. Got potential IMO

@Fuzz: oldskool vibes , fuck i'm digging that sub and nice percussion aswell. bigup

@Mouldy: Too chaotic as an intro, gets good at around 1.45 :) the background pad is abit too loud but rest is pretty neat. not diggin some of the breaks you add though.

OKAY , that was the promised feedback <3

Edited my last submission:

Thanks for the feedback, im quite new to producing (only been doing it for 4 months now) so i dont really know how to modulate bass yet, i use massive and have heard ur supposed to modulate it with lfos, every time i try this tho it just ruins my sound. if you've got any tips u would like to share i'm all ears

@reignz- Yeah I totally agree with you. Things sound different at three in the morning, especially when you've been listening to the same thing for eight hours straight in headphones. I should have put it in the works in progress thread, but I was delirious. Thanks anyways.

So this is my second attempt in making a dubstep song after a completely bombed first attempt haha. Like I said in my last post, I have no history of making any kind of music, so any tips, tricks, and general advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Not a bad first attempt. The first thing I'd say to work on is to clean the drums up and bring them to the front of the mix, because that (and the bassline) are going to be what propels people.

I haven't posted up any new material I've been sitting on, and finally decided to put this one up after playing it out at shows for a while.

Heavier grittier stuff, made the bass with a physical modeling synth.
