alot of people tap the cue button to get the timing right but is not essential when trying to mix. just try setting your cue point and then pressing play when u want it to start
i think people do this just as a comfort thing and to get into a groove as it were... it helps me anyway, tapping it coming up to where you want to put it in as you can hear the kick on the beat... if that makes sense.
^ but i am a noob so...

ive started using cdjs alot more often as venues dont tend to look after the turntables anymore, and with me using serato aswell its long setting up so prefer cdjs for the convience

DRTY wrote:cheers guys much appreciated, I find them (CDJs) really intimidating, seriously weird not being able to 'see' the music. Also buying MP3s is very odd, but is was nice getting like 5, 6 tracks for a tenner whereas that would cost me closer to £30 on wax. I like the fact you can DL artwork with them as well, that made it worthwhile. (OCD).
One more question, it's not that important as I only have a few dubs and about 5 digi tracks, but how do you choose what you put on a CD? I'm guessing you whack tunes you dont think youll ever mix together on the same CD? Seems waste to burn a CD for every track
Burn doubles.

the majority of dubstep tracks never see vinyl releases
so you need to get chummy with CDJs imo
unless you're using serato, etc
really, who can be hassled lugging a laptop around all the time..
anyway, pull-ups on CDJs are great fun

-Hold cue - track plays from cue point - if you let go, track stops
-Hold cue - track plays - press play whilst holding it down and the track won't stop when you release the cue button.
Very handy.

This is something I've been debating with for about a year.
Should I buy CDJS and learn?! It looks so weird seeing these people DJ, and I have a huge problem with not being able to "see" the music.
Oh I'm just so scared right now even thinking about using CDJS.
I think after typing this I'm really very certain I don't want to use them. Vinyl warrior all the way and gotta hope on more releases. Looking at Chemical today- shit is dry.
Sorry- I've used this post as more of my chain of thought.

I did this and it isn't a bad idea really, unless you're dead sure you will want to dj wax exclusively and thus being very sure that dj'ing is your thing. But even if you use turntables it's always a good compliment being able to burn the tunes you're interested in buying to try them out with other tunes before you buy the 12".
even though it's not vinyl you will still get training in beat matching etc.

More mad to spend over a grand on a fuckin CD player though surely
I don't mind tryin it first time at a gig too much, but just on Friday it was heaving, I'd rather do it at a shit empty gig just incase.
After my set when the next guy was going on I had to ask him how to get my CD out the player lol.

so I used some properly yesterday, real weird at first, hard to get used to the sensitivity and accuracy of the pitch bend on them, also the platter was a bit
fucked up the first 5 mixes a treat but started to get the hang of it after that

reckon I'd try some in a club now
