New "NON-INDIE" bands?
I've recently been trying to search or look for new bands that are just not on this whole indie thing... honestly I feel like out of touch with my generations music, im not digging the whole vibe in indie bands as well, too much self indulgence in the most queer bait way, feels like theres too much emphasis on their look and the music is well... haha speaks for it self in imo..
Bands I really enjoy listening to, joy division, the doors, pink floyd, radiohead, ataxia, smashing pumpkins, sonic youth.. etc...
can anyone recommend me some new bands they really like?

Neither of these two are exactly new, but they're both amazing.

here's some of the "rock" i've liked from the last year: memory tapes, foals, the drums, beach house, surfer blood, alcoholic faith mission, broken bells, black rebel motorcycle club, tunng, spoon, the national (like was said...there's a zombie song!), the apples in stereo, new young pony club, woods, the depreciation guild, rogue wave, ted leo & the pharmacists, plants and animals, the magnetic fields, the morning benders, frightened rabbit, girls, real estate, the mountain goats (maybe christian folk i dunno), lightspeed champion, los campesinos!, tame impala (why won't you make your mind is amazing), volcano choir...and on and on. i'm a list nerd. i wouldn't be able to keep up with my records or what i needed to buy if i didn't...hope something new for you

Not heard much modern post-rock that I've enjoyed, but these guys blew me away (full homo)

Saphyre, I wouldn't call the two I posted "indie" other than the fact that they're both on independent labels.

i think they are exactly what indie is, obviously you can call it lofi or psychedelic or chillwave as some are now saying but its all based on indie rock. indie is like how people use the term dubstep, it covers a lot of things which arent 'technically' dubstepMotorway to Roswell wrote:nicenice wrote:Sun Araw![]()

Just listened to Forest Swords. Fucking incredible.
To be honest, indie is such a hard thing to define. And the scope of bands that aren't indie is huge.
You like Joy Division so you should like this.

Thats a bit of a generalisation saying its based on indie rock. I would of though it was based more on Kraut and 70's psychedlic rock.saphyre wrote:i think they are exactly what indie is, obviously you can call it lofi or psychedelic or chillwave as some are now saying but its all based on indie rock. indie is like how people use the term dubstep, it covers a lot of things which arent 'technically' dubstepMotorway to Roswell wrote:nicenice wrote:Sun Araw![]()

He only has two releases out so far. A cassette and a vinyl ep. The Dagger Paths EP is amazing but I think it's sold out everywhere. I tried to get it but it was sold out by the time I had money. I have some mp3s and a mix if you want themnicenice wrote:Just listened to Forest Swords. Fucking incredible. What are some of their best albums?

if you read interviews with a lot of the artists mentioned they all seem to deny that and get annoyed when its mentioned, i actually think they sound the same because well they're experimenting with instruments and ending up at similar but slightly different places. i would say theyre more influenced by groups like animal collectivenicenice wrote:Thats a bit of a generalisation saying its based on indie rock. another thing is people who are into animal collective will like these bands more, as opposed to an older guy who listens to krautrock. this doesnt make sense since it does sound more like krautrock but the fact is its on the same wavelength as "indie music"

Re: New "NON-INDIE" bands?
i always thought the tag indie referred to more of a culture, and people from that culture who make rock music (it is rock music at the end of the day) get called indie
