Re: Depones 'Leg Up' Audio Service
I'm sure you all are aware of this given your academic credentials, (but it seems that y'all completely discount this in your convo) but there is such a thing as a mixing engineer, essentially dedicated to mixing stems.
Re: Depones 'Leg Up' Audio Service
Good work on those Depone, and Macc got it right in his post (I imagine I'm the first person ever to say that on this baord) re; donations. I see what you were saying but maybe didn't come across right to some people. That track sounds wicked.
Demanding you post those A/B comparisons has probably increased your business exponentially, so I'll settle for any old donation of 75% (and upwards) of your takings in return for the favour. I may even be sending you a track or two.
kind regards, the( )rapist.

Re: Depones 'Leg Up' Audio Service
big up for your effort to help producers here
When you finish mastering a track do you bounce it with or without dithering ?
I ask this because if someone's song is gonna be released later on a label and decide to send it further to a mastering studio for a commercial release. It is not good to dither a track twice
Maybe its an idea when you finished your work on a track to bounce both dithered and undithered.

Its a very bad idea to master a track twice. I ask for 24 bit .wavs or .aiffs. Uncompressed basically.nutrician wrote:big up for your effort to help producers here

The tracks i have just masted are set to go out commercially actually. And im now doing a 14 track album for the label (20/Twelve)
If i were preparing a track for CD, then yeah i would either use Pow-r dithering or any of the other well known noise shaping dithers. Logic 9 comes with a nice apogee one.
Re: Depones 'Leg Up' Audio Service

Re: 'Leg Up' Audio Service
So, when you say a couple stems, do you mean drums should be bussed, synths should be bussed, ect. to lower the number of stems you have to work with?

yes stems are separate parts of the track all rendered all at the same length.Basic A wrote:So, when you say a couple stems, do you mean drums should be bussed, synths should be bussed, ect. to lower the number of stems you have to work with?

i know what stems are I work in stem haha!
But, what Im saying is, say my track amounts to having 20 instruments... normally, I would stem these down individually, making a seperate stem for each synth, one for my kicks and one for my snares and one for my toms and ect... Usually, in each project, it amounts to quite a few stems... =/
You said, a 5-6 stem mixdown, or something along those lines... when you say that, does that mean the stems should be bussed down further (IE all the drums as one stem vs. individual drums becoming thier own audio lane)...
Make more sense?

Re: 'Leg Up' Audio Service
Bump... Still getting some really nice tracks. Shout outs to Haack, Masuka and Ding!
Also I Have just mastered a full 14 track LP forthcoming on 20/Twelve called the "Mothers against Noise LP". Really nice deep and experimental stuff.
Shouts to Disporah, Hurtdeer, Macka, Dusky, Myralfur, Second Line and slavetothewage...
