Creating a website to help people discover dubstep...

So I've been gradually getting into dubstep over the past couple of months, and I really want to create a website that will help people get to grips with what dubstep is, where it has come from and where it is today. As I said though, I'm new to dubstep so I'm gunna need some help.

The things I need to know are;

Who would you think are the top dubstep artists in the scene right now? (Djs and producers)

Who are the most commercially successful?

Who up the best up and coming artists?

I've heard of dubstep subgenres such as drumstep and other ones I forget the name of. Are there any prominent sub genres I should know about if people really want to get into dubstep?

Obviously I get that I've basically asked you to just describe the dubstep scene right now, but any help will be appreciated. I will continue my research into these questions for quite a while before compiling it all into a website.

Great idea mate, but.. if you don't have any immediate knowledge of what you're talking about then I'm not sure how this will work. You might have better luck writing a blog on quantum physics.

do everyone a favor and dont make/include whatever dubstep sub-genres you might have read about/heard.

im gonna contradict myself here though.....i wouldnt care if people used terms such as "minimal" and "reggea/dub influenced". even classifying it by year is fine, ie: 06-07 sound.

but thats just me.

i've learned more from lurkin these forums than i ever did from anywhere else. especially since i live in the states, and not in london. this forum is irie. your website should just be a redirect to this forum, lol... large ups though, all scenes need people willing to put in work. however, i wouldn't recommend making any sort of "dubstep for dummies" type of site...

Please, spare yourself the work. There's enough idiots out discovering "dubstep", and by dubstep I mean Mt. Eden and similar shit artists. We don't need more. You don't even seem to know the genre that well yourself, so I really don't think you should do this.

Just listen. I include dubs of the punters so you can get a taste of the future too. If you want to know whos the most commercially successful asking here isnt going to get the best answers. Look at your magazines and top intenet sites for that. You've got to do your own research and come up with your own opinion and love for the music as a writer. Infect us with your enthusiasm even if you don't know everything there is to know. Over time, if you give your audience something worldclass they'll come back for more.

Dubstep is a genre of music, like jungle, that evolved into its own style and industry over a period of maybe 10 yrs. House music changed over time and was influenced by more hardcore styles of music. With new talent and production techniques came new music. Its a cultural thing too, like a social movement because kids live it, wear it and breath it as well as listen to it. Every generation needs something that all them peoples can gather around at that particualr place and time and for some its dubstep.

I'd say internationally there might be 100 people actually making a living off of dubstep. Get on Twitter, facebook and myspace and follow your favorite artists and you'll soon see what the state of the scene is. In the smaller local scene's its different in every city. A place like Denver sees 1,000 kids all jumping to top dubstep artists, hand in the air all night. In New Orleans you couldnt find 5 people who even know what dubstep is. There's dubstep Djs in Istanbul, Turkey too ! Do some research on your own and you'll come up with better info than just asking random people on a forum. Good luck. If you want to make a site that will expose people to dubstep make a site like DnBshare/ mixcloud/ soundcloud/ myspace/ discogs/ dnb arena (cept for dubstep.)
