Not quiet.

Post by remonkee » Thu Jun 17, 2010 8:12 pm

Guys, need help.
What if i produce tracks similliar to dubstep,
i mean they are somewhere around 140 bpm
and rythmically they similiar,
but the thing is, that because of my mix
it's not quite dubstep. Dubstep supposed
to be bassmusic, when my tracks appear
to be DRUM music.

So i have this kind of question:

What labels can release that kind of stuff?

Sounds like dubstep to me? Its defo drum heavy but still, the sub is there.. i belive dubstep has maaany different sounds to it, and there really isnt any real sub genres like most other music, i also think realitivly speaking its a very experimental genre, and imo dubstep has alot of enphisis on heavy drums as it is (Ofc not always, but this is my point!)

There is no rules, only guidelines. Now if everyone was to stay on this guideline, everything sounds the same and the scene gets old, sure, stay close to that guideline, its a safe bet, but but you need to take your own little routes and shortcuts and find a line that you like, it might stray from the path abit, but thats what its all about.

As for labels, im not too sure, but it seems alot of DnB tend to have Dubstep B-Sides these days, and we all know how drum heavy dnb is, so some DnB labels might be a direction to look, but i don't know much about labels if im honest.

But if you carry on in the direction your going and make some bangers in this style, im sure theres aload of Dubstep labels that your music would fit with.

That's NOT supposed to happen. I think you're screwed.

Seriously, i checked your two tracks on SC. you've got an interesting sound there. i'm the last person to judge what's dubstep or isn't. but just keep doing your own thing and do it well.

at that point there's a label or lil niche for everything if you hunt hard enough, either that or just carve your own way.

Its not this part that worries me... Its...

Hmmm... dude, if your intending to write drum heavy stuff, then thats awesome and Im sure youll find someone who will push it, but, if your mix is flawed and hiding what should otherwise be a prominent sub or synths, if something is happening that by all technial standards (not just dubstep technical standards, but engineering wise) wrong, you want to re-evaluate.

I support, totally, doing your own thing, and I can see drum heavy 140 stuff being pretty epic if you pull it off right, I quite enoy drum heavy stuff myself, from junglish stuff to funky fidget madness to bare space and massive pounding stadium drums... Do your own thing, fuck the norm, I can attest that if you ever try n write what you dont really feel you wont get far. But. Dont let engineering mistakes hold you back, if they arent what your going for either.

SOunds to me though, like you know what you wanna make. So best of luck with it. Might wanna look at either some garagey labels or some minimal ones, or depending maybe wonky or even deep... Doubt youll be pushing much onto the brostep market, but, other then that I imagine drum heavy stuff be more then welcome if its done up right.

this is totally dubstep to me, or totally not
anyway

there's sub in it, and it has drums, and other sounds
and the second one it a bit house like

so what i'm saying is that i dont really see the point, if its good music then people will want to put it out
