So Rinse becomes legal.....

Post by groucho_marxx » Thu Jun 17, 2010 1:14 pm

...How long untill the advertisers start telling them what to play and not to play?

How many of the current djs will be replaced by fresh out of uni media grads and radio personalities, is this a good thing or bad thing?

it's only a communual license, so i doubt it will effect the integrity of the station too much.

Just been reading up on Comunity Licenses, seems they are pretty localised and without pressure from anyone/thing to play certain music.
Congratulations to all at Rinse FM!

If its being run as a non profit organisation i dont think they will.

(could be wrong though)

there's going to be a thread about this on every subforum hehe

i think it's great news and only time will tell if it waters the station down, but with it being a community license i don't think it will be a problem

but in the meantime i'm just glad that all this hard work has paid off and the organisers can let the music do the talking without having to worry about the legal consequences

If you were reffering my initial post, I was unaware at the time of posting that it was a community license and couldnt really be blamed for fearing any Kiss 100 style changes!

yeh i think that's right.
i did work experience at a community radio station, they could play anything and as far as i know didn't pay royalties cuz, as you said, it was "not-for-profit".
when i asked if i could play unsigned artists' music they said it was fine, i just had to try and get their permission/awareness, but i think that was just out of courtesy.

Get excited people this is massive news for this music - this forum wouldn't exist or all this music for that matter without Rinse's unflinching courage and tenacity to provide a platform - so many started and flagged, the good, great and just plain shoddy, yet they won through and that is hugely important - hat's off to 'em - 100% support for what they've done, what they do, what they will do...

and as for royalties - what? how many SoundCloud mixes are posted in this forum (royalty free)? The tracks discussed here at length are the ones boosted by Rinse's family - payment enough if y' ask me...
