through sheer dilligent scouring of the internet, last week i found a copy of DMZ001 for 6 GBP. needless to say i was beyond siked.
so this arrives today, in typical terribly packaged UK fashion - sorry guys, but this whole soft & flexible cardboard-envelope w/ no padding/protection inside thing is ridiculous. the rest of the world can use sturdy cardboard box-style mailers, right? anyway, as i've ordered tons of records from the UK over the years, i've always expected them to arrive packed as such, and thus have some bent corners and the like. no worries here though, this is just a 12" in a dust sleeve, right? well, as (un)luck would have it, that wouldn't even matter, as this was to be the first record i would receive CRACKED in 10+ years of mail order. yep, when i took the 12" out, i saw what i first thought was just an annoying surface scratch, but seconds later i realized it was a huge crack across almost the whole record! anyway, i went thru the rest of the day extremely bummed but hopeful that it was hairline enough that the record would still play. i'm happy to report that it does in fact play thru with little to no interference. just have to be extra careful with it now! so basically i went from

also, somewhat related, when were DMZ001 and 002 originally released (month/year?)
I've been on board since the release of 003, curious to know when the first two came out...

and oh yeah -
yes, it was the last copy. now i just need to find a straggler of HYP001 somewhere!

Unlucky mate.

On a similar note, I have records that are warped on arrival and was just trying to figure out, talking to my roommate who's a chef and vinyl junky, the right method of cooking up flat vinyl.

Anyone given it a go?

Think we might hit the salvation army and pick us up some test subjects.

oh, my god! that's a fukking disaster of gut-wrenching porportion!
i once received a record packaged nicely in one of those english record mailing sleeves (the good ones!) that the substitute post carrier actually bent to make fit in my mailbox!
it was copies by trace for the record...

There was a period of time where I would get whole shipments of 10 - 15 records from alphamagic, where every single one would be warped beyond recognition or cracked, I would call to tell them to sort out their shit, and the next time would be the same.

Don't know if it's the UK mail, or what.

I got a copy of pumpupthejam from redeye last week which is creased, it looks like its had somthing heavy left on one edge while it was in direct sunlight ... maddest shit I ever saw, every time the needle hits it it gets thrown in the air, about 1/4 inch off the record :shock: nuts !!!

Big Up Moldy on the info ... for less serious warping the beatminerz recomend shutting the lid on your techs, with the platter spinning, and sticking em in the sun, or under a lamp with a high wattage globe, the only problem I can see with just warming em up and squashing em is there is nothing to keep the "round-ness" of the record ...

dmz001 april / may 04
dmz002 september 04
(or thats when i got mine anyways!)

I bought my first record ever a few months ago from the UK (woo yea dubstep you finally won me over) and... it came in one of those flimsy cardboard boxes with no padding and was warped! Fortunately, this did not put me off buying records. (Prolly cuz Midnight Request Line came out shortly thereafter.)

This tale of woe is one of the reasons I'm not a fan of vinyl. I much prefer to use digital files or CDs, and considering some of the awesome CD decks that have come out in the past couple of years I feel I've made the right choice.

see bro you gotta read between the lines ... sure vinyl gets warped etc. but you can fix em, once a CD gets warped, and it can happen, its gone mate, whatever was on it is trapped, digital files get corrupted & HDs crash so there is probs. with both ... I have brought around 200 records into Australia from UK in the last 3 mnths and only a few were rooted ...

3 words: backups backups backups. Also, much more convenient to roll up to a gig with a binder than crates, local or otherwise.

Yeah I got back-ups, I buy two copies of the vinyl

respect tho, I can totally see why you'd go digital, I just love analog innit ... ever since recording mad shit to 2 inch tape

... to me the conveniance issue doesn't factor in ... its a sound ting, but also I lift shit for a living so carrying crates is nothing, thats me.
