Producing drumstep
So I am kind of intrigued by drumstep and would like to have a crack at making a drumstep tune, just to see what it would sound like.
How does one go about producing it? I haven't listened to a GREAT deal but from my reckoning it's done using dubstep drums at a faster bpm? Am I right here? Can someone link me to some bona fide drumstep that I can listen to first before having as go at making some? And what is the right sort of bpm to produce it at? Thanks.

Re: Producing drumstep
dont get so caught up with making music that fits into a certain genre
make music
and then if you really feel like you need to, you can put it in a box after the fact

I know it's all about creativity breeding versatily, and what your saying is true- but sometimes experimentation within an unfamiliar subgenre will allow you to enhance your own creativity if you get me.Phigure wrote:dont get so caught up with making music that fits into a certain genre

Re: Producing drumstep
Basically make drum and bass, but program the drums in half time.

but don't you think it'd be even more creative to do your interpretation of the genre than to use what is already defined?
Re: Producing drumstep
My intepretation of it would be shit without some heads-up on the basics of how to produce it. Once I have a basic grasp of that then I can begin to make my own intepretation.Phigure wrote:jaydot wrote:I know it's all about creativity breeding versatily, and what your saying is true- but sometimes experimentation within an unfamiliar subgenre will allow you to enhance your own creativity if you get me.Phigure wrote:dont get so caught up with making music that fits into a certain genre

even if it's a repeat and it's got a terrible name, if people make some good stuff from this why don't we just go with it?

If it wasn't for Sub-Genres we probably wouldn't have most of the music we have today.Project EX wrote:fuck subgenres! Drumstep is just dnb with halftime drums![]()
Re: Producing drumstep
tempo 175, make your drums half time (the same pattern as dubstep) then put whatever you want over the top of it
I've made drumstep but I've decided I'm gonna experiment with double time drum and bass next

Re: Producing drumstep
DNB is the wost when it comes to this. Drumstep in my estimation is not just dnb with halftime drums as there is plenty of half time dnb that I would not call drumstep. Big example Calbre - Steptoe. The Autonomic stuff is sometimes half time as well and nothing like drumstep. Drumstep is essentially clownstep (jumpup) with half time drums. If you don't paint by the numbers then it probably won't fit with this sub genre and it would probably be for the best.Project EX wrote:fuck subgenres! Drumstep is just dnb with halftime drums![]()
