I got given an old roland hs-60 synth which is sort of broken. all the keys work it just makes some weird high pitched/distorted noises some times (this isn't certain keys, it just does it randomly.) which makes it pretty much impossible to play anything. However, i thought i would be able to use it as just a midi keyboard so i bought a cheap midi to usb cable to try it.
I loaded up a preset drum rack in ableton and at first it seemed to be working fine. Then i realized that the sounds were playing only when the keys were being released not when the were being pressed.
Does anyone know how i could fix this? the little interface lights up both when the keys are pressed and when they are released but obviously i want the sounds to play when i press the keys not when i release them.
thanks for your help

Re: Midi help
I dunno about that particular keyboard, but try to find some aftertouch settings somewhere and try to turn it off. Might not be it, but I've had a similar issue with a program responding oddly to aftertouch. It could also be latency, try to increase the latency inside Live, and maybe try new ASIO drivers like www.asio4all.com
Re: Midi help
Could be the synth is totally fucked, and is sending note on's when it should be sending note off's.
Re: Midi help
yea it that's definitely possible, but the interface on the converter cable was lighting up when keys were pressed indicating that it it was receiving midi data.nowaysj wrote:Could be the synth is totally fucked, and is sending note on's when it should be sending note off's.
But now the converter isn't working at all haha. So i'm sending it back for a replacement and will try again when i get it. I'ts probably just the shitty budget cable thats the problem.
