Do not let your anger take control of the situation young Padawan. I sense immense negativity in your channels and this movement towards the dark side will do nothing but destroy you.

It's just not endearing. If said producer already had his head up his own arse then feedback isn't going to mean a lot. I can't speak for everyone, obviously there's a limit but being humble about your music is a good thing I think.

If everyone treated this place as 90% for promotion it would turn into a shit version of myspace. I don't see this post being very popular but oh well.

Keeps the inspiration high. Potential sales mean a lot too ;)

Oh for sure. But if music is your business then you have to express passion over your product.

Let's not forget the amount of hobbyists and noobs here. Don't get me wrong I don't like spam. But there's a big difference between self promotion and spam. What I do is not spamming, trust me I study marketing daily and know the downfall of spam. (I'm not taking this thread personally even if it may be slightly directed at me, I'm just trying to express that people should know the clear difference between self promotion and spam.)

Does this even need stating? - don't hate the player, hate the game?

You should really try and keep your tunes in the ninja dubs/wip thread imo, just courtesy I guess... unless you feel you have a big one and it deserves its own thread.

I feel I should contribute something real to this thread instead of acting the ass as per usual...

I don't really have a problem with a lot of the self-promotion here, most of the people here are just excited new comers who, on making their new tunes, get all hyped up and want the world to hear it. It's hard sometimes for n00bs to get their stuff out there, so a lot of the time, in their excitement and their lack of direction, their tracks end up in their own thread in the production forum.

As well as that (and I know this is a little off topic) I don't get why we're constantly moaning at people for self-promotion, this is meant to be a community, we should support the people within it even if it does grate on us sometimes because the truth is it's a little unfair to expect support from the people here if we're not willing to give it ourselves.

These are just my views on this.

There are feedback threads and so many people have soundclouds embedded in their signatures, if someone wants to hear your music they won't have to search too hard. Threads about finding new artists and production techniques are important for people who want to learn to make their own music, if everyone bombards those threads it waters down the useful information.

Why are newbies going to do anything other than post 'check my wobble' threads if frequent posters are doing it themselves? Maybe this can be the official "I'm a bit full of myself, listen to my wondeful music" thread.

The funniest fucking thing is, the people who are bitching are the people who don't visit the designated spots for tracks

Think about it, if the ring leaders don't visit the spots, it's not going to be a 'good look' for other users to visit it either. So show support, or expect your threads to be amongst ones promoting tracks. It's simple really.

On the other side, of which there always is one, if you can't show support, which is understandable for certain busy people, don't complain. You're too busy to complain.

Aren't you saying here you should be using the dubs threads yourself then?

I'm ok with all the self promotion around here, as long as this place doesn't become 90% business and people stop hainvg discussions, giving advice and sharing samples that would really suck.

I think you should investigate into what you're saying before trying to pick me up on things ;) Check out the ultimate DSF thread in my signature.

Anyway, I've never once said I have a problem with spam threads in the forum :o I think it has potential to work better than a single thread in some sense. But, it is how it is and I make the most of the designated spots. Like I said before, I'm not a spammer. But if I see potential to promote, then I will take that opportunity.
