Re: WHO THINKS WE NEED A MIX OF THE MONTH POLL?
Alright. Cynicism takes over. Popularity contests do seem to have some community building benefits & it might serve to spotlight some of the Djs hard work. What's stopping me from voting for myself over and over ?
Re: WHO THINKS WE NEED A MIX OF THE MONTH POLL?
This sounds like a great idea! Just need to make it so people cant vote for their own mixes.
Its so hard to find the good mixes in here as most of them are junk, this would help out dramatically!

So here's what I came up with, the only problem is I dont have the time to moderate it at the moment so I wouldnt be able to do much more than lay out my idea...
Sign up for a Posterous account (or some other blog or service where you can have multiple posters on the same blog). Have one main moderator, and a fair handful of contributors who get approved to submit content, say 5-7. When you submit a mix, it cannot be your own, and you have to write a review for it. List the tracklist, link to here (so we know its from the forum) and to the main download link so it can be downloaded from there. Have a communal login and password so all the contributors can make adjustments or whatever. That way its less of a popularity contest and more of a showcase. It could also be podcasted very easily this way.
That or have some mixes suggested in a thread here and the highest rated mixes get posted by one of the contributors, say the top 5 per month or something...
The reason I say use Posterous for the account is that contributors can post via email by emailing a certain adress (ie post@TOPDSFMixes.posterous.com) and it automatically creates an audio player if you put a link in the email. You still need some basic html to make download links, but its very basic. Contributors would not have to sign up to Posterous in order to contribute, but they do need their email adresses added to a list so the account knows they are approved. It can also be linked to a twitter account and other services which can be auto updated when theres a new post.
Just an idea... a poll would work too, but it would just devolve into a popularity contest on here (no offense to anyone, I've just been around here a while and have seen it happen before... ).
Here's what a Posterous account can look like (and a shameless plug for my podcast

Kidlogic, you are the fucking don dada. Thank you for putting so much thought into this.
Everybody cool with this? And if not, it'd better be a damned compelling reason...

BUMPity!

I mean, I just DL'd a handful of mixes of which there's an 8 minute megamix [wtf?], a couple utter shite mixes (names withheld to protect the guilty,) and one that was fine but no showstopper.
Help an OG out, will you guys?
