MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
I wrote this article on what seems to be a growing trend with grime MCs spitting over dubstep beats nowadays.
What are your thoughts on the two sounds mixing?

the odd track here and there is cool, but not too keen on it becoming to the point where the whole grime scene suddnely becomes some sub genre of dubstep.
Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
Dubstep with Grime mc's spitting over it constantly defeats the point in dubstep.
Not to mention it's very annoying.

I love grime tunes in my dubstep mixes, love dubstep influence in my grime and have no idea why anyone would feel the need to come up with a name for stuff that mixes both considering this is nothing new...

Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
Why??!So with this growing trend, surely there's a name that we can call it?

The name calling thing was just a bit of a sly dig at all the other names people have tried to certain sounds within the underground music scene.twentyOneDummies wrote:I love grime tunes in my dubstep mixes, love dubstep influence in my grime and have no idea why anyone would feel the need to come up with a name for stuff that mixes both considering this is nothing new...
I just wanted to know what the dubstep fans thought about the sounds mixing. I think it works, but I'm a grime and dubstep fan, but for those who don't like grime, it may not be the same case.

Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
grime and dubstep started off side by side, split and have come back together... I don't listen to much dubstep these days but grime and dubstep is nothing that new.

Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
you'd think if someone had a job working for MTV they would spend a lot more time actually listening to and researching music.
writing an article about grime and talking about dizzee rascal and chipmunk is the equivalent of writing an article about the state of drum and bass that only refers to prodigy and chase & status or something.
"grimestep"?!?! -GET OUT!
pointless article

Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
A post about an underground music scene posted on MTV?
Contradiction or what!?
Defies the whole point.
EDIT: I like Left the Room.

Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
ye but when people start saying shit like "grimestep"...no thanks.slackk wrote:It's all garage anyway.spydee wrote:the odd track here and there is cool, but not too keen on it becoming to the point where the whole grime scene suddnely becomes some sub genre of dubstep.
also the vocal side of dubstep generally is fine the way it is, with there being a small number of tunes with vocals that can be used effectively.
if we had a sudden influx of every grime mc and his dog starting to vocal dubstep tracks and have mixes with mostly vocals, etc....essentially having a sub-scene which is vocal orientated....thats what im not keen on.
Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
Thanks for all the feedback. It's intereting actually, the grime fans that read this article liked it, because it something that seems to be growing and they like the mix of sounds, but the dubstep fans don't seem to be appreciating the mix that much.
Oh and I know it's been around for a long time and that was highlighted in the article, Newham Generals are the dons.

DMZ & Kode 9 on the Rephlex comps in 2005... this is not a new thing, and something that i'd figure people would know to take as just part of the sound.
as far as the MTV article goes, at least this one was joystep-free.

Is it new? Slaughter Mobb/Flowdan/Newham Gens....Not to mention the production of the likes of Plastician & Mark One....
(For me anyway) Grime and Dubstep go hand in hand. They have always run alongside each other intertwining regularly...I think it's just as Dubsteps profile gets higher, even more MC's will jump on the more popular tracks...

I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn
Re: MTV: Is Dubstep Taking Grime FWD>>?
I think he's referring to the fact that the dub in dubstep means instrumental version... So to fill it back up with vocals seems silly. I do enjoy the occasional vocal, but far and few between please, imhogeistgurn wrote:Please enlighten me.
