Some great sound choices in here but it was feeling pretty weak after the same loop played over and over man, give it some mixing!

Thanks for the feedback, what loop sounds repetitive to you in particular?

I'll post feedback on yours later, I'm heading to work in a minute so I can't listen at the moment.
Sweet thanks man.
After the break man, its pretty much the same thing the whole time, not saying its bad though.

Right on, thanks...I feel like it varies enough, especially the drums, but maybe it's a bit too subtle for anybody other than the guy making it

Tracks aren't bad! Not really summer tunes but can see people enjoying them nonetheless. Heartcrash is better (although I don't think it needs the offbeat wobble thing), Don't Wake Me feels like it needs to go somewhere but never really does. Not a bad use of vocals at all.

@ cloak and dagger: I’m really digging the low end. The pads seem to glue it all together. Nice track, maybe try switching it up a bit. Or add a contrasting part that’s totally different, but floes right back into the main idea.. just an idea.

@ ENNO: Intro is sick. . the whole track is sick.. tight tune!

@ rolaz: unforgiven is big.. I really like that first melody that comes in.. I’m thinking maybe build the drops a little more and the tune will be huge! Dubiety is great.. wouldn’t change a thing!

@ tripwire22: material.. not my style.. but sounds well produced. I really enjoed stay with me forever, very chill.. pads are sick. Good track

@ Bassmagnet: Sick tracks.. I wouldn’t change a thing.. I downloaded ;)

@ hakka: great track! I love the pauses.. I’m feeling a fast sweep during the second drop. Percusion is good.. I really like the high end.. Nice track

@ retto: not really my style.. but not bad! Maybe try some hand drums.. bongos? The feel is good tho!

first two tracks.. EVER! :|
Listening to all the tracks before me its hard for me to put these up, because your guys' are so much better!
but.. you gotta start somewhere!!

My most sincere apologies for posting, without reviewing any of the tracks, jus a bit too quick to post without really reading the content. Apologies again. I will review as many tracks as I can today.

How About It: The intro impressed me, for your first couple of tracks people tend to not go deep. The track had a very powerful sense to it. Work on changing it up some towards the end it gets pretty repetitive after 2 minutes, sounds like you just automated distortion knobs.

Conundrum: I liked the vocal a lot. Very eerie and hidden along with the spacey snare. Then the wobble came in and killed it for me. It's a very typical sound and gave me an immature vibe. Still props on the vocal, what is it from?

Here's a melodic tune I reworked, I'm proud of the drums more than anything.

Let me know what you guys think!

cloak and dagger wrote:hey guys, I wanted to post up the first tune I've made in a while (I recently moved to a different city, and it was a huuuuge burden).

I usually make sure to give feedback, but to be honest there wasn't really anything on the last few pages that was really my style, and I didn't think I could give adequate feedback on it. So I thought I would post my tune up, and will give feedback to anybody who gives some to me or asks me for feedback (I can do it in this thread or PM). People that have seen me in these threads before know I'm not a "post and run" type, I give proper feedback when the opportunity comes along.

Anyway, here it is:

Soundcloud

Likin the minimalist feel to the track, kinda reminds me of early Unique 3 - Rhythm Take Control type of groove. Bass is ill, love the drop. All in all nice work :D

How about it: Has all the right elements maybe just needs expanding on. The drums (hi hat) could be a bit more involved. Love the bass and the synths. :e:

Conundrum: Deep Intro yessssur!!! :D Drop could be bigger maybe with the right drums, I'd love to have a go remixing this .... :P really feelin this riddim for sure!! you should be proud my friend. Keep doing you!!!!

@Imperial - Sounds nice... But drums need more power!

This is my first drumstep track and my second ever track... Feedback is necessary!

The synths are very creative, maybe a shuffle under the beat would open the beat up a bit more. Some of the bass parts sound distorted. A bit more work on this it could be really HEARD!!! :e:

@IanMassoth

Yeah drums are nice, you could do a lot more with the musical structure of the tune, needs a melody to drive it along and some switch ups

@victoryaloy (how about it) nice intro, good effort man you gotta start somewhere and you have taken time and listened to your genre and tried to keep things interesting, keep it up bro

@Victoryaloy (conundrum) same again man, you have some good ideas and are at least trying to expand your tunes beyond the loop, keep reading the forum and staying on track and you'll be pushing out bangers in no time. Keep believing in your ideas and try to develop them and your technical skills. your mixing isnt too bad, have you got a sub under the wobble? listening on headphones and cant make it out... Best mixing advice - read Maccs advice on the production forum

@Hakka (the Kingpin) Nice samples :) :D Is that a reece under the wobble? Proper banger bizness, im feeling a bit of a gap in the mixdown... subtle change its either bring the volume of the kick up, or bring the wobble down, or put a touch more bottom on the wobble... not sure sounds good though, like i said its a subtle thing, good work

@VOID nice vibes, felt it needed more variation, but you have the basis of nice tune, my MAIN feedback is that you should leave some feedback

ok ... not sure you lot will feel this one, edging away from the norm, was feeling the old skool summer vibes

@victoryaloy: not bad at all for your first tracks...as far as mixing goes, the high end seemed slightly harsh, and combined with the boosted low end, the mids were just a tad muddy. i don't think it would be all that bad on a big system though to be honest.

@Rolaz: like the drums in Unforgiven, cool vibe too, but I think those wobbles take away from it a lot to be honest.

@ cloak and dagger;

nice tune, really liking it, few edits on drums, also few edits on that "high sine'ish/bellish" melody, and repetition might disappear imo ;)

@ victoryaloy

first tune got an amazingly catchy intro, i thought that it will be more soulful tune ;)...style wise imo drums needs more groove/swing, mixdown wise both tunes are mixed not bad...byt for example second tune has kinda weak snare when wobble comes in imo :)

@ IanMassoth

nice tune, liking the mood of it, thou the tune imo needs more clarity, it sounds a bit on a low edge now...for example your high hats sound like they are little snares frequencie wise ;) the tune aint bad thou ;)

@ noizy parka

nice summer vibe going on, the thing i dont like is drums, they are kinda everywhere, also tramen break sounds like its streched and not chopped, also sometimes shakers/tambourines comes out too high in volume ;)

now my turn ...just finished this..and i dunno what to say more...just listen ;)

thanks man...there's actually quite a big drum edit in there that occurs a few times (when the pads and synths drop out, the pattern changes completely), but I think due to the tune not really being dramatic it's not very noticeable...dunno.

liked your tune a lot, by the way. i'd prefer if the synth that plays over the snares played around the snares, and the break in the middle felt kinda undeveloped...i think overall if you developed the tune a bit more it could be a really great one.

@ cloak and dagger

not really my style at all but nice and defined. I like the hits and the "shuffle" of the drums. needs more bass but that's really what you were going for now was it?
sort of an ambient down tempo feel, could definitely use this tune on the comedown of a roll when the pulsing gyrating bass has started to give me a headache
definitely want to hear some more future tunes see how your style develops

cool dude, appreciate the feedback...actually this thread has taught me a lot about what feedback i should take to heart and what feedback i shouldnt.

as for your tune, i have to admit that i like all of the sounds in there, but i'm not into the melodies...reminds me of skweee a bit, which i love, but it's kinda hard to tell what you were going for with this one. keep it up, though.

@synthlf: Lovely vibes going on. The small breaks of silence really work well. Got some lovely elements in this, especially those squelchy beeps. Vocal samples are great. Only criticsm would be it could do with a hook or melody over the top, because what you have here is an awesome backdrop. Reminds me of Andy Page. I shall head over to your soundcloud later and have a look at your other stuff

@Noizy Parka: Nice and glitchy. The break that enters at the 1 min mark seems a bit washy and doesnt sit very well - can do with being eq'd a bit more. Could do with a punchy snare layered ontop too. The tambourine seems out of place as well - it needs something else in that high end to compliment it and gel it with the rest of the beat. I really like everything else tho; vocal cuts are great, piano stabs are nice and summery, bass is raw and glitchy which works.

Here's something I've just finished, Id appreciate some feeeeeeed;
