Any tips on making Kryptic Minds type bass sounds?
How can I make Kryptic Minds bass sounds? Like the kick bass sound they use in wasteland at the end of every 8? Also are there any tips for making the longer drone type bass used in the same track?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McnbDie4sFM
The sound I'm particularly interested is at 48 seconds. It's the bass noise that hits just as the drums cut out.

Sounds quite a simple noise, still heavy. Maybe try having a layered sine and square, heavily lowpassed, and a touch of distortion. Set attack as almost 0, decay to taste, sustain to 0. The sucking sound I think would be the pitch dropping in time with the volume, try fiddling with pitch autoamtion, bend in albino, or pitch envelopes.
Hope this is right, maybe a better synth expert than me might have some additional input?

My bad, I thought an 808 was alot shorter than that but then looked this up, skip to about 3.05

Yeah, cheers man, blatantly an 808. How can you make these from scratch in Albino and Massive?

The 808 BD is just pure sine with some white(?) noise added, you can try it but its quite hard to replicate the roland bad boy.Dirty-Hertz wrote:Yeah, cheers man, blatantly an 808. How can you make these from scratch in Albino and Massive?
If i went back in time, i would create the 808 BD before roland did, fuck yeah, keep ya snares and toms.

Agree, just use a sample mate. There a roughly 2 billion in circulation at the moment.Bazzle09 wrote:The 808 BD is just pure sine with some white(?) noise added, you can try it but its quite hard to replicate the roland bad boy.Dirty-Hertz wrote:Yeah, cheers man, blatantly an 808. http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/ These guys make some of the sweetest 808 samples Ive ever heard.

+1 for gold baby (their tape 808 and mpc roland drum machines are mint)
sounds like there's a bit of pitch up at the end of some of the samples, and a little delay/reverb

Bit off topic, but i was clearing out a garden near me yesterday, i found loads of sample cd's and other production media in the shed, thought id have a good 'ol rummage as it was all going in the skip... found the original MPC3000 setup disk's (yep, 4 floppies) and alot of the samples from it too. (again, bloody floppies)
Turns out it was 1 half of the early artful dodger crew, tony someone... im trying to find him but not having much luck.
AND i have not got a floppy drive, nor does anyone i know.
im dying to hear these original samps.

keeping the bass middle to the high end of the low in the mix..if that makes sense haha and reverb of different types , do some experiementing wit the reverb and try to give it more breathing rather than a lasting effect . also depending on wat synth u use for ur bass .. ie massive give it more drive and more boost instead of raising the high end
i tired for long time to get the basses on the tracks "768" and "badman" and this is wat helped me make that style of bass .. its a nice airy dark feeling
oh i almost forgot , layering something over the top of ur basses gives it more life too ... maybe some buzzy fx or sum but keep the volume low in the mix wit lil reverb or chorus or sumthing to give it some space and bulk then compress together , its a nice way of giving those dark spacey sub bass wobbles and mid bass wobbles some nice high end without having to do to much eqing

Whats your name? what have you had? reach for the lasers. safe as fuck

All that hype around the original machine sample is quite bs IMHO. You can replicate it with a decent sounding synth and get the same filth as the original one. It's quite easy to replicate, just pitch envelope with an analog filter and white noise. you can replicate the slight changes of pitch and/or warmth of the original machine by adjusting some automation values. Also, vermona has some really better and usable "808" style kicks to use them as bass.Bazzle09 wrote: The 808 BD is just pure sine with some white(?) noise added, you can try it but its quite hard to replicate the roland bad boy.
