Just had to stick my dick in the hornet's nest here and point out that linking the editor transport with the main sequencer is such a basic feature.

FL's great for what it does but it is seriously behind the competition in a lot of aspects.

I know. And it's not even gonna be complete the way they've implemented it.

And that's the point, fl is ridiculously behind on a lot of features, AND it's still better than the rest. Ta DOW!

Yeah I think you can already do this....there's a slidey bar on mine, near the zoom bit? If that's what you're talking about anyway? I wiggle my scroll wheel in there and pow, resized. I may however, have got the wrong end of the stick, having just woken up...in which case, do ignore me :-)

Haha no I meant to put "individual track heights" which is something that's included in this recent update. One thing I do hate though along those lines is the fact that you can't zoom that far in the piano roll.

Would rather update once every half year or so, then 4 small ones a month. imo

Yup, better to have regular updates and the choice of when to install them than no updates at all!

Some Reaper users don't update every time because they are happy with the build that they have (or are lazy).

Yet updating is completely painless...

It take about two minutes to download the new installer, and about 30 seconds to run the installer. No need to uninstall previous versions, no need to back up your settings, just install right over the top of your previous installation. Not only that, the installer remembers your preferences, so if you didn't install everything the first time, it won't install the bits you don't want on each consecutive time.

You don't need to fuck around with dongles or registration details, you don't have to fuck around with reimporting your user settings.

Basically, updating is easy, and gives you new features twice a month! :D

Let me ask you, why wouldn't you want your DAW to have new features twice a month? (You don't have to use them, but for some people they will be very beneficial.)

Don't worry, I understand. You're feeling denial about your respect for the Reaper development team and their speed of delievery. You are also likely feeling sad that your DAW doesn't get regular new feature updates and that it is an upwards battle each time to get even basic bug fixes sorted per release. :P

personally i like cubase most and its perfect for me. ive worked with reason for ages, i rly like the interface and its kinda easy , but yet many things are ripped off cubase, there are no meters or vst compatibility. Except that, its a great DAW. FL is cool, so is logic ( i used it for only 1 month but i really enjoyed it). I think its not important which DAW you use ,its how you use it ;)

FL 9 just came out, and now I'm fucking with the 9.5 beta. Every update I've had since '99 has, of course, been free.

Ah, but when did the last update come out? ;)

Reaper is updated pretty much twice a month. :)

most people use their daw as an extension of their e-penis. that's why there's always so many arguments on music forums about the capabilities of different DAWs. it's hard to measure who has better music but it's a lot easier to measure who "technically" has the best DAW. when i say "technically" i mean the one that has the most features.

i've used cubase and i found it clunky and there were too many random windows popping up. i had no idea what was going on. i've also used reaper quite a bit but i ended up uninstalling it for a couple of reasons.

yeah i know you can tweak a million features and customise every single aspect of the program to your liking. but this doesn't really appeal to me when i have to look up a thread on the reaper forums just so i can install a theme. every good feature of reaper seems to be an "extension". that's all well and good but i can't install these things because i'm retarded. i also don't like the piano roll. i think it's kind of shit. the things i like about reaper is that it's fast.

currently i use renoise and reason+record. so obviously i think they are the best programs for my personal workflow. i like the reason+record environment and don't really see why it gets so much hate around some forums. it's like some kids don't get the program or something. for example i don't use a tracker and expect to be recording vocals in it but nobody complains about that because yeah trackers are underground and cool. reason+record is what it is. a self contained virtual studio. i like the focused nature of the propellerhead system. but that's just me.

i think it's great that the reaper devs update so frequently but that sort of system also has downsides. too many cooks...
with the devs integrating feature requests at such a rapid rate it sometimes takes a lot longer for big updates to come through. why is the piano roll in reaper still shit? sometimes a development team needs to focus on specific targets without outside interference.

i'm really looking forward to the reason 5 update (coming at the end of august). i do about 80% of my main sequencing in reason+record. for everything else i use renoise. i mostly use renoise as a sound design tool. obviously it supports vsts (something reason does not) so i do a lot of sound creation in there. plus i use it for drums. i mostly use the built in fx in renoise. i used to have a lot of cracks but my laptop crashed and i couldn't be bothered reinstalling them.

i also just installed ableton live lite. i had an old cd of it lying around so i just threw it in. and then it let me update to lite version 8. i'm really digging the session view but i don't know about the sequencer. i probably just need to get used to it.
