i know these days there's like serato and traktor and etc

and digital has taken over

but do you think vinyl will come back again?

like in the future there a change dj's would just like the old vinyl again instead of the cdj's,serato,traktor and etc?

i know most vinyl store i use to go to has shut down here..

i actually don't even know any where to buy vinyl these days.

does vinyl still sale alright on your side of the world?

vinyl is doin just fine...people have been saying this stuff since cassette's...then cd's...now software....since it was once the dominant music format in the world its hard to compare its sales figures today with its figures in the 70's, but at a market share of about 5% (having not looked that # up) and strong loyalty from its users, vinyl does and will continue to be a viable specialist/alternative medium.

Yeah vinyl is still going strong. I buy all my vinyl and put them on cd to preserve the record and because i find CD's easier to carry to and from gigs. Couple of record shops here in Birmingham UK that stock most Drum & Bass / Dubstep.

Thinking of starting a limited run vinyl only label.

Will learn to dj with dvs. Dvs is the way forward because it allows you to play vinyl, and digital only tracks together.

I think vinyl's share of the market is going to expand in the near and long term. Despite what venerable people within the industry say.

I agree with your post except for this. I found great sounding rips of Return II Space the day after it came out (I only looked out of curiosity of course; I pre-ordered my copy on redeye the second you could.)

i think he meant that you can't pirate the physical record itself

and yeah, I had 320's of Return II Space just before it came out "officially" (I bought the vinyl though)

vinyl will never make a true come back. tiny spikes here and there but digital is the future. and the future is now.

i, probably like a lot of people here, have a lot of wax sitting around that i haven't converted into any digital format. it's a pain in the face to rip. it's big and heavy and bulky. yeah it looks cool. but if truth be told i would offload most of it. but that's impossible because nobody would take it. i even have tons of fucking doubles because of beat juggling. taking up space in my bedroom. when i need to move there is going to be a serious problem. problem with physical items. that goes for music hardware too.

i think that vinyl sales could run into a problem in the next couple of years because of the fact that young DJs coming up now don't purchase vinyl. with the rise in popularity and complete dominance of DVSs and programs like ableton it's becoming quite a rare thing to see a vinyl only set. it started with CDJs, then it moved onto DVSs and now with something like ableton kids who want to DJ have no real reason to get decks and a mixer.

so we'll be left with a couple of people who really like the format. those people will be left with the responsibility of keeping it alive.

i don't know tbh. i still prefer hearing a set and seeing a set where it's just the DJ with decks and a mixer. no laptop. no cdjs. when cdjs and dvss started becoming popular i thought it was weak. most (not all) of the digital DJs i'm hearing now are doing stuff that could be done on turntables with wax. technology makes things easier and makes people lazier.

i agree with you about sets with no laptop involved, i hate seeing someone spinning and half of the time is spent staring at their screen. but is there really much of a difference between seeing someone spin vinyl only or spin on CDJs, aside from seeing him a flip a record every now and then?

i also agree here but i still prefer turntables then cdj's but some people say the recording quality is better on vinyl then mp3's.
