Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
How can i have samples mapped onto the keyboard, does this make sense?
Im using Fl studio, is there anyway i can do it in there, i heard it can be done in Fruity Slicer?
or is there another VST or piece of software i can use?
Cheers in advance

Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
Yeah you can do it by adding a layer channel into your pattern, and then by going through the other channels in the pattern by clicking set chldren. I can not remember exactly how, but i am sure it is explained in the manual. But definitely the layer channel mate.
Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
you mean a different sample on each key?
I would open up fruity FPC, have a blank instance, load all the samples you want into the bank, then click one of them, goto the box where you select the key mapping, click the "map entire bank" (or something like that" then just hit every key in a row, and it will map all the samples to each key you hit, if that makes sense?

Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
For drums, FPC is great. Amazing.
But for 'sample' samples, like little bits of songs n stuff, use Slicex. Drop a wav in, it'll autochop it and map the samples to the keyboard, ascending from C5. That's pretty much only for samples from a single file, although you could just paste each one into it. If you're taking a bunch of samples that are completely different files, Layer channels are nice, and FPC is okay, sort of.
Or just use Directwave.

Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
Basically what you need is a sampler of sorts. Everyone here has recommended some type of sampler or other.
Also, the sampler channels in fruity's main step sequencer can be played by the keyboard, just check either the audio settings or the midi settings, the option is in there.

Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
Theres an easier way of doin' this, without samplers.. (I.E, lower cpu usage)
Options > Midi > turn Omni Preview Midi Channel to 1
Now when you press a key, it'll play the corosponding sample/vst.
This only works well for drums as it plays the first note (C5) of every channel - so once you've wrote your drum beat, turn it off to play notes.
I think it starts from C4 (C4 being the top sample/synth in your patten editor) and runs down through the samples, the higher notes you play, so map things according.

Does this work when recording to, or would I have to edison shit while I drum?legend4ry wrote:Theres an easier way of doin' this, without samplers.. (I.E, lower cpu usage)

And btw...
@OP... Layers, bitch though. I always just opened all the samples I wanted sequenced them in no particular order saved that pattern and opened it into slicex, if that makes sense?
I like legend4ry's plan if it records though.

Yup, it records midi, audio and automation.Basic A wrote:Does this work when recording to, or would I have to edison shit?legend4ry wrote:Theres an easier way of doin' this, without samplers.. (I.E, lower cpu usage)

Thanks for the replys... FPC works like a treat...
We need more posts like this, the proper tutorials.

Each sample channel in fl, is a sampler channel.legend4ry wrote:Theres an easier way of doin' this, without samplers.. (I.E, lower cpu usage)

Well you know what I mean, not nothing like FPC or short circuit.nowaysj wrote:Each sample channel in fl, is a sampler channel.legend4ry wrote:Theres an easier way of doin' this, without samplers.. (I.E, lower cpu usage)

Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
As people have said I think the FPC would be good for this. You can still send each sound to its own fx channel, you can layer I think up to three sounds to each pad to have layered sounds, there are envelopes... I usually make my drums with each sound in a seperate channel because I don't play them live.

I don't know what the limits on layers in the fpc is, but it's more than 3, and I think more than 8, a lot more than 8.
Re: Mapping Samples to Midi Keyboard
It's more than 20........
