Why so many tracks made at 140 and pitched up?

Yep.static_cast wrote:Uh, doesn't the 0-pitch problem on Technics only apply to MkIIs, and only when you're at, like, +/- 0.1% or so and the slider physically sticks into the centre detent? At 140 that's nowhere near +5bpm.
But I have been on some newer models where they do not have the click but the pitch is still shit around zero. It works better above zero rather than below zero too.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

A lot of what i play sounds really shite slow (but then again, most of the stuff i play runs in the 135-140 region opposed to 140-155deadly habit wrote:boo slow it down not speed it uplegend4ry wrote:Lets be honest, most dubstep tunes at 140 sound better at like +2 - +4 when mixing anyways I don't see it as a "problem" of technics, more of a saviour ahha.

I have decks that are tuned nicely with brand new pitch faderslegend4ry wrote:Lets be honest, most dubstep tunes at 140 sound better at like +2 - +4 when mixing anyways I don't see it as a "problem" of technics, more of a saviour ahha.
I like to mix at +1.5 - +4 beacuse I like the energy the music has at that speed
I am also always cognizent of what the BPM of the next tune is and I try to never drop below 0, but it happens sometimes.

Little squeaky newbie talking amongst the big boys - I have two m3d's and one of them is rock steady around 0, the other - total disaster around 0.
Re: Why so many tracks made at 140 and pitched up?
huh.. honestly i like to pitch my tunes down a lil bit when made at 140. 136-138 is perfect.. has a nice slowed down, lo fi feeling..
Re: Why so many tracks made at 140 and pitched up?
Yeah I have never done this before but lately I have been going like you say 136 to 138. Makes the sub deeper and the tunes creepier but also I can throw in some UKF or something.narcissus wrote:huh.. honestly i like to pitch my tunes down a lil bit when made at 140. 136-138 is perfect.. has a nice slowed down, lo fi feeling..
My old techs are calibrated just fine thanks Deadly but the pitch is somewhat unpredictable when you get too close to the locked position. There is a mod you can do to remove the quartz and the notch and I have been meaning to do it but the problem comes when I play out on a set of decks that had the notch it could fuck up my plans a little bit.
Re: Why so many tracks made at 140 and pitched up?
I feel a bit embaressed to admit that I never knew about the 0 pitch issue with technics (which I've now had for about 5 years...) and perhaps this irrelevant, but I rip all my vinyl to play on my ipod - should I be ripping them at +2 instead of 0, or is this only an issue when mixing?

Its just with mixing mate, there is a groove at 0 (When the light comes on) which is really stiff and doesn't allow for fine pitching.

what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.
